Cumberland Hotel

The location was wonderful. 25 minute walk to the city centre and on the bus route from to airport. The staff were very nice. My room was comfortable and quiet.

Duschgel

Als kurzer Zwischenstopp vor dem Abflug gebucht. Die Lage ist ideal, Bushaltestelle für den Airlink direkt vor der Tür. Da ich wegen früher Abreise das Frühstück vor Ort nicht nutzen konnte, wurde mir flexibel ein "Lunch-Paket" mitgegeben. Die Qualität war aber eher enttäuschend und den Preis des Frühstücks auf keinen Fall Wert. Zimmer relativ klein, aber für eine Nacht okay, Bad eher klein, ansonsten aber schottischer Standard.

Das Bettlaken war nicht sauber, der Teppich machte auch einen schmuddeligen Eindruck. Einlass in die Lobby in der Nacht per Klingel. Da das Zimmer direkt neben der Lobby lag, laut und störend.

I liked that it felt like a bed-and-breakfast more than a hotel and the staff really made you feel at home. The building was beautiful.

1800s architecture

23 days in UK & Ireland. 16 hotels. Cumberland had: worst cleanliness (not cleaned under the bedsince 1800s); worst breakfast, a burnt omlette on the outside, still uncooked inside ( and you had to order your menu items the day before); worst coffee (including gas stations). Worst bedding (appeared to BE from the 1800s): worst towels (threadbare); 3rd worst for accessibility; 2nd worst for parking (which you pay extra for): and the least friendly front desk person . And they wouldnt even turn on the garden hose that was right there to help us wash off the car. WTF? This was a place where they made you feel you were inconveniencing them by staying there. We love Edinburgh, but we wont back to Cumberland.
