Hotel & Residence Calais Car Ferry

This hotel is ideal for our needs. Our dog can stay with us at all times. Room key can be accessed after reception closes easily. Close to the port for ferry back the next morning. Hotel staff always been friendly. This is our 7th or 8th stay here, will be booking the next soon.

A very basic room and in need of some tlc, but good value. The receptionist was friendly and spoke good English. The hotel doesn't offer evening meals, we arrived just after 9pm and had an excellent meal at the Ibis Hotel next door, just 9€ for their set menu of main course and either a starter or a dessert. We were also given a 15% discount voucher for meals at the Camponile hotel opposite. We had the buffet breakfast at the Balladine - 6 Euro for a selection of breads and jams/honey, selection of cereals, one croissant each and as much coffee as you want, the fruit juice was a bit watery. Located just 3 miles from the calais ferry.

Arrived at 21.10 after a tiring journey to find that reception was closed. We were not aware that it closed at 1900 hrs and we had to use the machine outside the door for our key. The key got stuck in the machine. Fortunately someone else staying at the hotel let us in out of the cold, we couldn't reach anybody by phone but eventually found the receptionist who after keying in our details several times finally opened the machine and retrieved the key. Not a good start to our stay!

Usually use Premier Class or the B&B chain of hotels. This popped up at £20 off for the night at £30.20 so thought we would give it a go. Hotel and decor are certainly looking tired, but bed and room were clean. We found the hotel really easily, which is usually my biggest problem. If they want the usual £50 for the room then its better value elsewhere.

As a low budget hotel, I was more than happy with the rooms (we had three), the staff and, of course, the location, being just 6 minutes from the centre and the ferry. Breakfast was as expected and sufficient. If I had a suggestion to make for the management, it would be to supply te/coffee making facilities in the rooms. Would I stay here for a prolonged stay? Probably not. Would I stay here again as a bolt hole to and from the ferry? Definitely.

We'd spent 3 night camping in a 2 man tent before staying in this hotel, the tent was far better

dull and tired looking, very noisy guests staying outside gobbing off. bar shut when we arrived but did use the ibis next door but prices there very expensive. bed was clean but pillows very poor. would not stay there again even though a budget 1 star a remote control for the tv would have been nice.
