Backwater Ripples Kumarakom

Located off the backwaters, you are able to see the most beautiful sunset as you sit on swings or in the pool. A peaceful atmosphere even though staff are working near by. The rooms are very clean and staff are very generous with their time. There are lots of food options with generous portions and full of flavour.

This is my 8th visit here in 20 odd years. This place just gets better and better with each visit- just like aged old whiskey. The service are fantastic and so are the people. Attention to detail - mind blowing! My family and myself were lucky enough to witness 2 wedding events here. And what an amazing ambiance and decoration it was. The bride and groom looked amazing against the back drop of back waters and beautiful architecture cottages. Very large wedding venues indoor and outdoor. So many places to take pictures. The view from their lighthouse was so picturesque and peaceful- I noticed many guests missed this out. The canal cruise was once in a life experience- it was just like in the Malayalam movies. Speed boats drivers are friendly and go beyond their way to make up feel comfortable .

Just left this amazing hotel and didn't want to leave. The rooms are lovely and big, the zsimming pool had the best view ever and was a lovely temperature. It's large enough to go for a nice walk around and see all the different plans which they grow there. It's got a small kids area with a swing, slide. The evening entered was a lovely touch, with communial tea and snacks by the lake, while some musicians played. The staff there were amazing and couldn't do enough to help. The only downside during the stay was the time it took once ordering food for it to arrive. It took 45 mins for a chicken ciabatta sandwich to come which was a long time with a hungry 3 year old! We enjoyed a spa treatment as well! I would have loved to have stayed longer to relax further.

We visited Backwater Ripples in early February 2026 and stayed for two days with my wife and our two-year-old daughter. And honestly, I can say this place is magical. It didn’t just give us a stay — it gave us an experience that felt deeply transformative. We had driven all the way from Athirapally Waterfalls — nearly four hours — and we were completely exhausted when we reached the property. But the moment we entered Backwater Ripples, everything changed. The warmth, the smiles, the calm energy of the place — it immediately felt like we had arrived somewhere special. The check-in process barely took two minutes. It was smooth, effortless, and welcoming. Sindhu ma’am, the Guest Experience Manager, personally escorted us to our heritage villa and made sure we were comfortable. Her warmth and genuine care stood out. Since we had arrived around 4 PM, she gently insisted that we should not miss their “Chaya Kada” between 4 to 5 PM — where they serve tea, coffee, and snacks. I’m so glad she insisted. We walked to the Chaya Kada and found ourselves sitting right in front of the breathtaking Vembanad Lake. Sipping hot tea, watching the sun slowly dip into the waters, feeling the breeze on our faces — it felt surreal. It wasn’t just tea. It was a moment of stillness, beauty, and gratitude. That evening, we had dinner at their in-house restaurant, and the food was absolutely amazing — fresh, flavourful, and comforting. Every detail felt thoughtfully curated. The next morning, we woke up early and strolled around the property. The greenery, the lake views, the peaceful silence — everything felt poetic. Watching my little daughter run freely in such a serene environment was a memory I will always cherish. I had come to Kumarakom for research for my second book, but Backwater Ripples gave me more than research material. It gave me inspiration. It gave me calm. It gave me moments that I will carry with me forever. If you are looking for a place that offers not just luxury but soul, warmth, and genuine hospitality — Backwater Ripples in Kumarakom is that place. Highly recommended for families, couples, and anyone seeking peace. We will definitely return.

Pleasant stay. Lakeside location. Spacious and clean rooms. Hospitable staff. Plenty of activities are arranged by the resort itself and early morning canal boat ride was the best. Special thanks to Madam Sindhu at Concierge for guiding and helping us.

Resort staff is good offering free activities, such as bird watching, boating, etc. We really enjoyed the time we spent in activities organized by Shijo there. But there is a big problem with management. They want to project this place as ideal destination for corporate events and weddings. And if you by chance land on any of those days with group events, your day gets wasted. Resort is noisy, food is delayed, pool is hijacked, etc. I highly recommend to call and check if there is any group events planned on your dates before booking.

We were here with a wedding group and extended our stay a few days before and after. Every bit of our stay was just excellent. From the check-in experience, to the free upgrade for the first night. It was my girlfriend's birthday and the hotel sent us a cake on the house. The daily boat trips were a very relaxing experience. The evening tea and the entertainment after were a great touch. The property is well maintained, including the pool, and the manicured gardens. The food in the restaurant was excellent and we didn't get bored eating in the same place for nearly a week. Ms Sindhu Nair went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. Sijo's birding cruise was probably the highlight of our stay there. We are already planning our next trip there with extended family.

Amazing experience...spectacuar property, admist nature...activities organised by the resort especially the speed boat cruise was exceptional thanks to the knowledgeable and great naturalist Sijo... In all a lovely stay

The vibe of the hotel is great, very calm and nice. The restaurant was excellent.

Unfortunately there weren't enought hot water in the shower
