House Jelena

Our standard room was clean and nice and Jelena, the host, was very nice. The property is located just a few minutes from the lakes which is very convenient. The room had only a small roof window yet there wasn't any proper curtain to keep the sun out in the morning. Walls were thin and we could easily hear what was happening outside our room.

We were two couples traveling together and had a very enjoyable stay for one night. It was clean and in a quiet neighborhood. Helena was very helpful and gave us tips for seeing the park during high season. Breakfast was good and included eggs from their hens and homemade jam. Would definitely recommend; also has a small kitchen travelers can use.

This is more like a family owned pension than a hotel, and we found it charming. We stayed in the well equipped family room with 3 beds. Personally I had some issues with the mattress on the double bed insufficiently supporting my body (too soft in the middle), so I traded beds with my son, and slept on the single bed (couch) for one night. It is possible to get breakfast at 7:30 in the morning, but we had our own on the peaceful porch outside. The pension is close to entrance 1 and 2 of the national park Plitvice, and for us it was great for a stay-over for a next day visit to the national park. The family's daughter works in the national park, she speaks English well, and is happy to provide suggestions for the visit to the park. We recommend going early (arrived in the park at 8:30 AM) to avoid the huge crowd entering after about 10:00 AM. Also, go directly to parking 2 and ignore the ticket office at the parking lot (and the queue there), but walk to the park entrance. In the building opposite of the entrance one can buy tickets too, and there was no long queue there (when we were visiting anyway). At the entrance we took a bus for track H, and walked it until the boat. It can be walked easily, even with sandals, and halfway there is a possibility to shorten the trip if fatigue, the crowdedness, or heat gets overwhelming. We had a great stay in the area this way and recommend the pension as good value for money.

Wonderful small family hotel or home stay. We highly recommend staying here when visiting Plitvice National Park.

It was a very well maintained guesthouse, well located for people wanting the visit the lakes.

We stayed at House Jelena for two nights while going to visit Plitvice National Park which was a short drive away. It was a great experience. One of the best places we stayed at throughout our trip. Very clean and comfy. The yard and flowers were beautiful. Jelena and her mother in law were very friendly. They had a cute kitten outside to play with. They had breakfast available for purchase and it was wonderful; coffee, bread, yogurt, cheese, deli meat, and fresh eggs from the chickens outside. The guesthouse was located off of a quiet street so there was no noise from cars and it was very nice to take a walk around. There's a shared kitchen and fridge for guests.

Friendly, helpful hosts who offer a nice place to stay at very reasonable rates.

A perfect accomodation with extremely friendly hosts. Room rather simple but everything was available and in good working condition. Excellent was the breakfast served on our terrace with a little flower on the linnen covered table, orange juice, bread, home made jam, fine coffee and scrambled eggs from the farm across the House Jelena. Indeed, a memorable stay also due to its serenity.

House Jelena was a great choice! Only a 10 minute drive to the Plitvice Lakes and surrounded by beautiful scenery! Waking up to roosters howling wasn't too bad, a nice change in culture that I found to appreciate! The house is located on a nice plot of land, perfect for relaxing after a long hike. I didn't have the breakfast, although, I can imagine it would be with fresh eggs from their chickens; another aspect of the culture of that area that I really enjoyed. Jelena was warm and welcoming and the rooms were amazing!

I cannot recommend House Jelena enough! We received a really warm welcome and the whole place was scrupulously clean and really comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful and the famous plum jam lived up to expectations. The location was great and we liked the chickens too! If you are visiting Plitvice this is the place to stay. Jelena was very helpful with advice about visiting the lakes and even lent us a couple of rain capes.
