"They LOVE my dog here!"

Couldn’t be happier staying at the Candlewood tonight. Husband & I are headed to Big Bend area with our Aussie mix for a few days and wanted to get as far as Fort Stockton on our first night. Got an “app” surprise pet-friendly hotel at super rate (though the hotel web rates are equally great) and it’s a delightful, comfy, roomy, convenient place to stay. Best part is they welcome UP TO TWO PETS FOR A SINGLE LOW FIXED PRICE PER STAY.... not per night, per stay! It’s less than the cost of one night’s boarding, and our sweet pup has already been petted by Bessica at the front desk, enjoyed free doggie bones from the treat jar, and been to the grassy doggie area twice. She’s happily curled up on the floor next to the kitchenette and her food and water bowls. I wish they had a Candlewood even closer to the park, but this one is less than an hour from Balmorrhea, not much farther far from Alpine or Fort Davis, or a couple hours from Big Bend through Marathon.

We were glad they were dog friendly but the rooms are clearly for minimalist/bleak business trips. The bed had a big dent in the mattress, enough that we kept rolling towards the middle. Right before we left, our keycard no longer worked and we had to get maintenance to come look. He ended up banging on it a few times to get it to read.

Love the generous shampoo options. Upon check-in, the staff was flirting with someone in front of us instead of checking us in right away. We waited for 2-3 minutes while they finished their convo (non-patron related). That was disappointing.

"Excellent value for the price"

After spending all day since 0600 on the road, pulled over at this property which I have never stayed at before. It is just off I-10. Plenty of parking. The first room assigned smelled like a previous guest was a chain smoker and notified the front desk who quickly moved me. They were very apologetic and quickly addressed my concerns. The reassigned room was great. Smelled fresh and a large room with a nice bathroom and typical for this family of the chain, comes with a kitchenette for extended stays. They have a very large desk to accomodate a laptop and accessories and plenty of power receptacles. Missing at least Idid not find were USB outlets. Bed is awesome to lay on and relax. The bathroom is about average size. The tube facet is new type and you have to pull down tub spout vs one with a lever or pull up. Elderly may have trouble using this as I found out my 87 year old Father could not figure out how to take a shower, but once I showed him, the shower was uneventful and refreshing. No ding here but the hotel chain should consider elderly may have issues with this type of contraption. Excellent place to rest after a long day and do sightseeing if you are visiting the local area with the ability to cook inside and save a little vs. fast foods. East to get to and easy to get back on I-10.

"The GM doesn’t understand the meaning of customer service"

We stopped with a group of 50 young people, after making reservations several weeks before for 12 double rooms, and I also had a reservation confirmation. They did not have all our rooms available, wanted to change 2 of the rooms to singles, kept saying they were completely booked and refused to call any other hotels in the area to see if there were other rooms available. She said she could only call the Holiday Inn and she knew they were booked so she wouldn’t call. In addition, I was originally told that the rooms could hold 5 people, which was not the case. The desk clerk was flustered and could not answer my questions so she called the GM, Rosemary Trevino. The first words out of her mouth were, we will just cancel the rooms. Seriously? You’re going to cancel all the rooms and leave 50 kids with no place to go on a Friday evening at 5:30? She never apologized, just kept saying I will just call my owner and I am sure he will tell me to cancel the rooms. In the meantime, we were able to get rooms next door at the Fairfield Inn, for a cheaper price. So, WE cancelled the rooms and walked next door. This was the poorest customer service I have ever experienced anywhere in over 30 years. Unbelievable that they were willing to lose over $1500 in revenue without trying to come up with a solution. Kudos to the Fairfield Inn - if you’re in the Fort Stockton area, I highly recommend staying at the Fairfield.

"Overnight in Fort Stockton"

I found this establishment neat, clean and staffed with friendly individuals, although a bit overpriced for the over-night stay, leaning more toward the extended stay. The room was very comfortable, the restroom facilities (Shower) was extraordinary, i.e. I do like a hot shower and good water pressure. The rooms provide refrigerator and microwave, additionally the facility has something similar to a general store, containing numerous items that will support your stay. My preference would be to engage lower price facility, the prospects of staying there again are very slim.

The room was not worth the money. The kitchen cabinets were cheap. And bowels in cabinets were not clean. Only breakfast was apple, banana & coffee, tea & hot chocolate.
