Adegas do Pico

Very unique property. Great view. Loved the layout of property. For additional cost provided breakfast basket each day. Town has a well stocked grocery store nearby. Very picturesque village with a wonderful wine bar.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend that anyone stay here. We had a number of issues: 1. Cleanliness - there were centipedes everywhere, including in our bed during the night which was very unsettling. We complained and basically nothing was done about this, other than putting a useless glue trap down. The house had clearly not been cleaned properly and had cobwebs / dead insects scattered around the place. 2. The toilet was leaking. Again, we complained, and they sent someone to "fix" the issue, however this was never remedied - all that happened was that a dirty towel was left behind in the bathroom (they didn't even dry the floor) 3. The AC didn't work The host was very responsive and friendly, but really didn't take any responsibility for these issues, and we ended up moving to another hotel. Very disappointing - avoid.

My family and I stayed at Adegas do Porto for two nights this August, and were excited about the chance to stay at such a charming, authentic home in the heart of Pico. The house had the basics and necessities needed for our stay, and the staff were readily available by phone or email. A welcome basket of local bread, jam, coffee and tea was prepared and set out on the table for our arrival. This, however, was the extent of the positive experiences we had at Adegas do Porto. Soon after arriving, we began to notice bugs covering the walls of the bedrooms downstairs. One room, had over 10 spiders on the ceiling, and the other had multiple house centipedes running across the walls, into the floor, and even onto the bed. We also noticed that the en-suite bathroom toilet appeared to be leaking. When wiping up some of the water, we were shocked to find a lizard in the trash bin. The lizards were also in the walls of the kitchen, and a bat flew into the outside stone of the house while we were on the patio. The final issue before reaching out to the host was the fact that none of the outlets in the bedrooms were working... An email was sent to inform the host of these issues, to which the response was: "Thank you so much for your email and information! It was a pleasure to welcome you and we look forward to your next visit 😊 Have a nice evening." We do understand that this is an authentic lava home within the wild nature of the Azores, however, did not appreciate the toilet paper stuffed between the bottom edges of the wall and the floorboards, signaling that the host was well-aware of the issue prior to us reaching out. Suffice it to say, we did not sleep well during the two nights we spent here.

Awesome views across to Sao Jorge. Very cute. Great location. Nice short walk to some lovely natural pools. Away from the hustle and bustle, very peaceful. Communication with host excellent. Would love to go back.

It was in a beautiful location. The views were spectacular and it was close to a lovely swimming area. It was a nice house, attractively decorated and clean.

During our stay, the town shut off the water supply for maintenance. At the beginning of the trip, we didn’t have water for about a day. If this happens at home it is a pain. On vacation, its a disaster. We didn’t know how long it would last - maybe the whole week? It also happened that I had just put most of my clothes in the washer and the machine had locked them in. So, had we moved to a hotel, we would have to abandon most of my wardrobe. By the way, the staff only told us about the town maintenance AFTER we complained. The water had been out at least 5-6 hours by then. We left the house at 11am and my son couldn’t brush his teeth, returned around 5pm to still no water. We had to go back out to stock up on water bottles. We had thought that maybe it was temporary due to a lot of use in the morning. I complained again around 7pm in the evening, and was told “these things happen” and “hopefully it will turn back on soon.”. It did come back on thankfully sometime in the middle of the night. Although these things do happen, if I had been running the property, I would have shown up in person to apologize and perhaps bring a bottle of water as just a token gesture. I do manage a rental property, in fact, and believe me I would have been there. We were strangers in a foreign country with no idea when the water would be turned back on, if ever. I had no access to my clothing. Although it was out of the control of the property, some additional help and communication would have gone a long way to making the difficult experience better.

Outstanding location right at the beach, very comfortable and cosy little house. Perfect place to explore the island! Very friendly reception!

The setting was really good. The architectural features had given us an authentic feeling. Dispite the very traditional look the confort standard was very good.

The lights in the living room/kitchenette were very dimm. No wifi although that wasn't a real issue.
