Budget Lodge Inn - Abilene

Called another nearby Motel and advised only room left was king queen combo and fairly expensive rate. We were visiting the Eisenhower Museum on way from NKC to Colorado and just needed a bed for the night. We arrived before dark and initial impressions said "don't expect much". It turned out to be shortsighted as the room was nicely appointed for $40 plus tax. The King bed has a memory foam topper and wall mount flat screen cable powered TV. The bath had been updated and was spacious. Good service at check-in. Ice machine was clean. We did miss an in-room coffee pot but at this rate we could to buy coffee nearby. They did offer small continental breakfast with coffee in lobby but woke too early to partake. The room did have nice fridge and microwave. The moral of this review, do not judge a motel by the cover and price. We walked across the parking lot to Ike's' Place for a nice dinner, see review. We would stay here again.

Overall, an average motel. The only plus point is that it is close to the Eisenhower library. But, the presentation of rooms is not up to the mark. I was disappointed to find that the bathroom faucets were loose. The lighting around the premises is inadequate. Occasionally, one may spot ladybugs or silverfish inside the rooms. Room was cleaned daily and I have to admit that towels were replaced on a daily basis but I had slight reservations about the centralised AC and the way breakfast was served in the reception at 7: 30 am. While coffee and cornflakes are good enough for a price for 40 USD, I had reservations about the seats for breakfast (in the reception) flimsy table and chair).

Reasonably priced motel close to Eisenhower Library. But, there could be some improvement on terms of infrastructure, e.g. the faucets in the bathroom appear worn out. Also, complimentary breakfast could either be eliminated or upgraded. Cornflakes and tea is alright for breakfast but presentation of breakfast matters a lot.

This motel is old pretty run down. We were happy with the cleanliness of our room. It's very affordable.

I chose this motel by the reviews here, but we were disappointed. First, our room was not ready at check in, and the housekeeper (a grumpy older man) told us he didn't want to be rushed so we should be gone a good long time. It was a bit after 3 pm and there were no other cars in the parking lot and I had a reservation I made a month ago. I thought we'd get one of the updated rooms we had heard about, but when the manager looked at my reservation and the amount I paid by booking in advance, he gave us a room next to the laundry/ice machine room in a room that had not been updated in many years. Worse, he put someone right next to us and the rooms had an adjoining door (locked of course) but with an inch gap at the bottom so noise and light from that room shown in ours. The sink had no stopper and we found a cockroach on the floor. You get what you pay for, so beware. I will say, the owner of the place seemed quite friendly, so I'll give it one star for that. We won't be back.

Older, clean, doesn't smell. Gosh, sounds like a personal ad for me but I'm actually talking about the motel. To be sure, this is not the Taj Mahal. It is an extremely clean, quiet and comfortable motel with great management and staff. The mattress is worthy of any five star motel. I have stayed at every motel in Abilene and this is by far and away my favorite. It's way underpriced for the quality. Ike's Restaurant and Lounge is nearby.

When I arrived I attempted to cancel the 2nd day I had reserved. The desk clerk (manager?) started yelling. Yelling in such a way I had never experienced in hotel travel. He was so intimidating I asked him to please lower his voice as it was clear he was getting more agitated. Finally his wife (?) interceded telling me he doesn't mean anything. He finally said that the fax cancelling the 2nd night had to be received by 8 pm even though the confirmation stated midnight. I called my wife to attempt to cancel the 2nd night but she said the confirmation number you provided me was not recognized by your system. As it was 730 on 1st night so I didn't have time to act. Later, when I came to occupy my room I see a mature couple rooming next to me Leaving, taking fotos as they backed out the door. I asked why they said they found the room too dirty and when they asked the clerk for clean sheets he brought dirty sheets then said if they wanted better they should go to another hotel. The couple claimed he became so agitated that the guest thought he was going to be attacked. They decided to leave. You have probably heard from them also. I inspected my room and found it was equally unacceptable and decided to call my sister to stay with her rather than risk another confrontation with the clerk, as I am 70 years and can't risk him attacking me. I intend to dispute my Amex billing because of the dirty room I never occupied.

I went to Abilene to run a marathon. This was the cheapest place in town, and all I needed was a place to sleep and a shower. It was perfect! The folks were nice, the room was clean and everything worked. Plenty of TV channels and free wi-fi. They also extended my check-out time to 1pm no problem, since I was running the marathon, and needed to clean up afterward. I will stay here again next year, when I come back to run the marathon again!

Great stay for the price my wife and I stayed one night visiting Eisenhower library the next day. Room was clean, bed comfortable, everything worked, wifi was good, free parking, and 1 mile from library. The only negative thing I have to say is breakfast is just cereal.

Good value in a safe neighborhood.
