Amritara The Poovath Beachfront Heritage, Fort Kochi

The 160 year old building is in a fascinating location, at the end of the land once occupied by the original Portuguese fort, adjoining the old Dutch cemetary on one side, and a large private house dating to a similar period on the other, and fronting onto an area of open space that has the small and well used public beach, and the well travelled public sea front walk to the Chinese fishing nets . The small walled garden, shaded by an enormous rain tree and with a pleasant swimming pool, is green and quiet. I took the advice of other reviewers and took a room at the front upstairs with the sea view which was delightful - everything worked, the glassed-in porch with its day bed was great for watching beach life and the walkers on the sea front, and the breakfast area and outside balcony also pleasant for sitting enjoying the sound of the waves and watching the boats and ships coming in and out. I ate several meals at the hotel, all freshly and attractively prepared, and the hotel staff also arranged taxi rides to and from the airport with good drivers. There were a number of other heritage hotels within walking distance with good dining facilities for variety.

Lovely hotel, great location, nice people, great room. I only stayed here one night but it was really good value. I spoke to another guy who paid 2/3 what I paid in a nearby hotel and his place was no where near as good. The interior is really nice and it is very close to the sea.

Very warm and welcoming service. Elegan decor if a just a bit austere. Good location and very comfortable beds and bathroom. What else could you ask for ?

Beautiful colonial building with simple decoration such as Dutch planters chairs. As our room was downstairs, it was nicely quiet. For two of us, big enough room with high ceilings, two big twin beds and a large bathroom. We had the terrace and pool to ourselves as there were very few guests that weekend. Location is nice but view on the sea is limited while the large, old building & the Dutch cemetary next door are impressive. Friendly staff. Breakfast was perfectly fine but we went out for other meals as it was too empty.. Overall a good experience but the place is missing something very unique like a warm host or more decoration.

staff not very friendly infact quite miserable not making much effort to meet our needs.No incentive to eat in the restaurant as no interest in us as guests,Did lend us an umbrella to go out in the rain.Swimming Pool area not attended to which is a surprise given there were plenty of staff not doing much else.Breakfast was very poor.

Lovely place. Wood floors. Nice towels. Helpful front desk. Good price. Lovely city. Highly recommended.

Nice staff, nice house, nice rooms. The safety case didn't work and nobody tryied to repair it, but it's not important. My only complaint is about humidity in the rooms (tropical climate).

We had a great stay at Poovath. It was our first night in India- the staff were great, the pool was lovely and relaxing, the room was clean and the South Indian breakfast on the second floor veranda was delicious with a great view.
