Friends Hostel and Apartments Budapest

The hostel is located very close to public transport, supermarkets and restaurants. The staff was helpful and friendly. We stayed in the room on the first floor which had no reception and only a very small kitchen area, this made it really hard to meet people. Also, they do not offer free luggage storage, so if you need to leave your bags before checkin or after checkout be prepared to pay for it. The room was a bit on the smaller side which is something I expect from staying in the city centre. The shower and toilets were very good and clean all the time.

No lo recomiendo, me deje unos auriculares en la cama, les envíe un mensaje y directamente me dijeron que no se hacían cargo de los objetos perdidos, que allí no había nada, ni siquiera me preguntaron como eran o donde podría haberlos dejado, también había mocos secos en las paredes y en 5 días que estuvimos no cambiaron sábanas ni toallas ni una vez. Por cierto los auriculares eran unos AirPods

We stayed here for 2 nights, when we arrived we found it difficult to find the entrance because it was dark but there is a metal plaque above another plaque that shows the entrance of the main hotel. We were taken to our apartment by the receptionist who showed us some cool places to go see in Budapest. She was really helpful and gave us lots of information. The apartment was perfect for what we needed and was above a coffee shop that we went to both mornings because it was such good service and food. We were well within walking distance of the danube, ruin bars, metro stops and a really good place for vegan food, with the Szechenyi Baths 30 minutes on foot or a couple of minutes by metro from the Oktogon, via hero’s square. It was a quiet street at night, would recommend staying here.

在這裡住了兩個星期，這家旅社一切都很完美，工作人員友善服務熱誠，地方乾淨環境舒適，氣氛溫馨,但有一件事很可惜破壞了它的完美，那就是床蟲, 住宿期間我被咬到去看醫生，會起水泡很癢, 甚至咬到臉上，看起來很可怕，但不是每個人都被咬到，住宿期間我聽到有另外三個人被咬，其中一人還看到蟲，希望老闆能正視這個問題且解決它，因為原本這是一個完美的hostel, 很可惜。

Tolles Hostel im Zentrum, sehr schön eingerichtet. Hell und sauber. Ein bisschen wie bei IKEA:-) Bad und WC auf dem Flur werden täglich gereinigt. Kleine Küche / Pantry bietet alles was man braucht. Ich kann es 100% weiterempfehlen.

Great hostel. Perfect location for night Life runners, 20 min. by foot to the main city centre, room comfortable, big, with air conditionear, modern and spacey kitchens and bathrooms with everything you need. Super satisfied! The only bad thing - parking problems. They don't have parking lot, ir you left car in closest one - it will cost you ~20 EUR per 24 hours.

Three of us stayed at the Friends Hostel for 3 nights in August, 2018. We booked this hostel because it looked modern, fresh and new in the pictures. We chose a three bed room. First thing to note was the location was spot on. It is located on a Main Street with many food options nearby, the subway is near, bars are near. Ideal location. When we arrived, reception looked exactly like the pictures and it felt modern and fresh. We checked in and were then told our room was located in the apartment next door. We were taken outside and into the apartment next door and immediately told to take off our shoes. They are very, very strict about taking off your shoes. No shoes are allowed to be worn in the hostel. We were then taken to our room and were surprised for two main reasons. First, the room was nothing like the pictures posted online. The furniture was dated, and all mahogany. It was a bit like stepping into the 1930s - absolutely nothing like the hostel in the pictures. Second, we booked a three-bed room. A room with three beds. It is stated, however, not made obvious at all, that a three bed room can contain a double bed and a twin bed. Luckily as three friends, it wasn’t a massive issue for two of us to share a double bed - however when you pay for three beds, you expect three beds and it should be made clearer on the website. The apartment itself had a nice kitchen which had all the appliances you could want and two bathrooms shared between all the rooms in the apartment. The bathrooms were spacious, one of the showers was a bit small height wise. The other issue came up multiple times. If two people are talking a shower at the same time, there is no access to access to a toilet and we found ourselves waiting around a lot for people who were taking long showers. Usually in hostels, the toilets and showers are located separately to avoid this. Budapest was over 30 degrees when we arrived and one of our friends was unwell so air conditioning was essential. We had to pay for the air con, and apparently not all the rooms have air conditioning so we were lucky to be given a room that had it. The room itself once you got over the dated mahogany and excessive amount of mahogany wardrobe storage was spacious and functional. The pillows were not good at all, quite like sleeping on a bag of air. The main reception stores the “modern looking” hostel rooms which you see in all the pictures we realised later on so it’s not exactly false advertising, those rooms do exist, there’s just a whole other bunch of rooms which they’re not showing. Laundry services again, had to be paid for but our clothes felt fresh and clean afterwards. Check out was 10am and we weren’t leaving till evening so we had to store our luggage there. Again, we were charged for this. We’ve stayed in a lot of hostels and things like luggage storage are usually free customs. They did let us sit in reception that day so we didn’t have to wander round so that was nice and we did appreciate that. This Hostel is a comfortable stay and we had a pleasant enough time here. All the staff were very helpful. I really do just think they should have pictures of the not modern mahogany “apartment rooms” which are located next door as it feels a tad misleading to people booking who expect a colourful, fresh hostel room. And there were a lot of little charges which we weren’t expecting. Our stay at Friends Hostel itself wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t what was expected.

Buenas las instalaciones pero no cumplieron con lo reservado dado que La habitacion no tenía ventilador y el calor era muchísimo. Además cobraron por las toallas. La recepción excelente.

This turned out a horror experience for me! I am in the hostel right now, as I am writing this review, laying down on a couch in the kitchen because my own bed is crawling with bed bugs!!! Out of 3 nights in the Friends hostel, I actually slept only 2 hours in my bed! I was running to the bathroom to cool down with water, and otherwise sitting on the kitchen couch, shivering from that terrible feeling that things were crawling all over. The first night, I arrived after 1am, and two hours onto my sleep, I woke up from intense itch and heat all over my body. I went into the bathroom, only to find my entire body covered with huge bulging bite marks. I was horrified!!! I had three huge bites on my face! My legs, arms, hands, and virtually my whole body was covered with huge hardened bites! I washed myself with cold water over and over, trying to bring the itching and the heat down, going back and forth until the very morning. So, no sleep there. The conditioner did was broken that night, so all the windows were wide open, and I thought that this was all because of the mosquitoes. I also blamed it on heat (34 Celcius) and high humidity, and honestly, just wanted to get on with my trip. The second night, only ten minutes after laying down and turning off the lights, I felt that something was crawling all over me again. I thought that I imagined it, but could not it and turned on the lights. To my horror, I found several scary bugs with multiple legs crawling on me, and started killing them one by one, using the sheets. They popped out blood! I screamed in horror. That night, I found and killed 21 bed bugs in my bed, within just one hour. I put them all into plastic, to show them to the hostel staff when they open. Yet, during this night, I was all on my own, and there was no where to call for help. After that, I could no longer psychologically stay in the room and camped out in the kitchen. I could not sleep after all this trauma, but eventually “fainted” into sleep from exhaustion. In the morning, first thing, I told the reception what happened, showed my bites and the insects in the plastic. I asked to please move me to another room, and to do something about this infestation. I had a tour to go to, so I was hoping to come back at night, already with a new room available for me. When I came back that night, only to be informed that they could not move me to another room, or another bed, and that was it. They said that somebody came to desinfect the room, so it should be fine now. Well, during my sleepless night, I did some research on bed bugs. You cannot just get them out easy like that! All our things were still there: 8 girls, 8 beds. The did put in new mattresses, but they kept the old dirty pillows! This was like a joke! Were did they expect me to go look for a new place in the middle of the night? Then, they insisted that I pay immediatrly

This is a great hostel for those who want to stay central but not with all the big partiers. It was clean and quiet. Beds are comfortable. The only complaint is that there was no fan at all in the room. The windows can open to the street but it can be very noisy.
