Friends Hostel and Apartments Budapest

Couldn’t find them nor their apt. No name of apt # on their ad. Had to wait for HOURS outside the bldg entrance just to get in. UNACCEPTABLE “customer service” unfit for a lapdog, let alone a paying guest!

Overall we had a good stay here - the apartment was bigger than I'd imagined and had everything we needed (including a kettle, fridge etc.). It was a good value for the price, was refreshingly calm (not at all a party hostel, of which there seem to be many in Budapest), and had more space than expected. This said, a few things were less than ideal: the bed pillows were very small and thin, the two doors you had to lock from within (and unlock with the key to get out) were very difficult to deal with, and a few days before our stay we received an email saying the reception would close at 4 pm and if we arrived later they would have to send us self check-in information - we ended up taking an earlier train and arriving before 4, which was good since I think the self check-in would have been very confusing. So be careful to check what the reception hours are before planning your arrival. But other than that we had no problems.

The hostel is great and the price is excellent for its quality. The place has only a few rooms, what gives a very nice atmosphere to it. There is a common kitchen that you can use at any time. Everything is extremely clean, especially since you are not allowed to enter there wearing shoes. The location is also great, and you can do almost everything by foot from there. However, there are no power plugs for the upper beds, which is really inconvenient. Our only problem was that on Thursday some of the staff were listening to loud music at 1 a.m. They were always very nice and polite, and they turned the sound off in the second we told them that we were trying to sleep, but still that was upsetting. However, the stay was great and i really recommend it!

Bedbugs, lot of bites, nightmare. And the owner knew it but didn't tell us

My friend and myself shared a twin room during our duration of stay in Budapest to attend the Sziget festival. The room was very spacious and clean. Bathrooms were just across the hall and the room and hostel itself were very secure. Location is just down the road from the Oktogon so easy walking to lots of key places! Only downside was the room did not have air conditioning (however there was a small fan), lucky it wasn’t too hot while we were there! Staff were friendly and helpful.

We got direction by staff and walked for 14 mins to another location. It was a big apartment away Main Street. The original booking is cheaper from this one. If you require to pay Euro you need to follow hotel’s rate. Furniture were ok. no need to check out.

The experience was bad starting in the fact that there was a late check-in fee and nobody told us in advance. The room was not properly cleaned as it had hairs and dust on the bed, it smelled. The room was hot and we asked the AC remote at the reception and it was provided to us without mentioning any additional cost. In the description of the room, it said that there was a ceiling fan which was not the case, so we had to ask for it. In the next morning, someone knocked on our door asking if we had the AC remote because it had an extra cost. We said that we would sort it out at the reception since the person was not even identified and saying that the rules were clearly stated on the walls which was not the case either. We had to agree on paying an additional charge because the house was very hot.
