Fortuna Downtown Boutique

I do not recommend this hotel -- not worth the price. There are two good things about it: 1) friendly and helpful front desk staff, and 2) location is very convenient. HOWEVER, we found many undesirable things: 1) Our so-called "family quad room" looks much larger in the Expedia photos than it actually is. It is actually tiny. The room had no desk or table at which to work, so I had to take my laptop down to the bar to work. 2) No luggage rack or other place to put luggage in room, except (in our case) the unused bed. 3) We reserved a "pool view" room, but the room we got had only a street view, meaning it was literally feet (meters) off the busiest square in town, where all the tour buses stop every day. If you like waking up at 06:00 to the very loud and constant sounds of trucks and motorcycles passing feet from your room, you will like this. 4) Bathroom was tiny, with almost no space around the sink to put things like toothbrush, contact lenses, etc. 5) Advertised "free secured self parking on site" is FALSE. Parking is 1.5 blocks away at a public parking lot. Prepare to pay for metered parking when you arrive to check in. 6) No towel rack in bathroom (even though towel rack mounting fixtures were present!) 7) Safe would not lock. 8) No facial tissue in the room, and staff said they had none they could provide. So bring your own, or buy it at a local store. 9) No bar soap or shampoo provided, only body wash, which housekeeping failed to refill despite daily cleaning

If you want to stay downtown in a central spot this hotel is for you, right on the main road. The rooms don’t have a ton of wiggle room but you have everything you need. The bed and pillows were super comfortable and the rain shower always had hot water. Maid service was daily and she always made out towels into a cute design on the bed. Breakfast was descent as well with excellent coffee and choices for hot meals (scrambled eggs, sausage, rice), pastries/breads/cereal, and tropical fruit which was always ripe and tasty! Some mornings there were more options than others (like yogurt or pancakes). The parking lot is safely secured but about 2 blocks from the hotel. The pool is somewhat awkwardly placed—there’s no area around it where you can sit and read—but we mostly used this hotel as a docking point so we could do lots of activities, and weren’t interested in using the pool. Also it was a nice touch that they give you tokens to have a delicious welcome cocktail, and the happy hour specials in the hotel bar were very reasonable. I’d stay here again! I only wish they had travel bottles of shampoo and conditioner for guests—they only had lotion.

Good central location, helpful staff. Rooms are basic but clean. Excellent restaurant for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is included but mediocre (the restaurant staff don’t work in the morning)

It was a great hotel with very friendly staff and nice clean rooms. The only negative is their showers which are very old and jump between 'icy cold' and 'boil you alive' depending on how they feel at the time.

Conveniently located in downtown La Fortuna, this hotel is within walking distance of shops and restaurants in a lively part of town. However, the location also means it can be quite noisy, especially with the traffic on the main street. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, which was a highlight of my stay. The helped suggest and book activities in the area for me which really made the trip. Unfortunately, the mattress in my room had a deep sag on one side, making it feel like I was sinking into a hole. With better bedding, this could be a much more comfortable stay.

Fortuna Downtown Hotel was perfect for our family to adapt to Costa Rica on our arrival, close to so many eating and shopping options. Convenient for activity pickups, great staff at the desk and restaurant. Cleanest hotel experience I have ever had. Comfortable and convenient. Some people might find it noisy as the day starts early for breakfast but this didn’t bother us at all. Would definitely recommend.

All of the rooms face the courtyard and steakhouse restaurant. On top of this, the hotel is on the Main Street with lots of loud vehicle traffic. This results in a very noisy environment because the walls and sliding glass doors are not well insulated. The noise finally settled down around 1:00 in the morning, but then restarted around 5:00. We seriously considered asking for a different room, until we realized all the rooms were situated the same. Our only relief was that it rained very hard the second night, and the rain hitting the surrounding tin roofs helped mask the other noises The hotel itself is nice and in a great location across from the park and close to all the restaurants and shopping. So if you can get past the noisy part with earplugs, you’ll enjoy your stay.

Very convenient location - heart of La Fortuna. We would walk to all stores, restaurants, entertainment in downtown. Beds were very uncomfortable. Hot was access was limited. There was a lot of noise from the main street in downtown. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Food was really good.

Great service. Internet needs a serious upgrade.
