There are places where you stay, and there are places that quietly stay with you. My ten-day stay at Dar Al Iman InterContinental Madinah belonged firmly to the latter.
Before I even arrived, the story had already begun. I booked my stay through IHG Priority Club and received a thoughtful email from Aseel Al Refaie, Front Office Manager, informing me that my room had been complimentary upgraded to a Haram view. It was unexpected, generous, and genuinely touching. In a city where intention carries as much weight as action, this gesture quietly set the tone for everything that followed. I would like to thank Aseel from the bottom of my heart for his kindness, thoughtfulness, and personal attention. His gracious approval of a late check-out proved invaluable, as we had a late-night flight to catch and my father was able to rest comfortably until departure. Such consideration goes beyond service and enters the realm of sincere care.
Our arrival from Makkah was physically demanding. The long journey and motion sickness caused my elderly father’s blood pressure to rise, leaving him dizzy and unwell. Before concern could turn into panic, Security Officer Khalid noticed his condition immediately. Without delay, he arranged a wheelchair and, together with the driver and myself, helped my father exit the car and sit comfortably. It was not a rehearsed response, but an instinctive one, rooted in care, sympathy, compassion, and sensitivity. In moments like these, one does not remember titles or uniforms, only the humanity extended when it matters most.
At the reception desk, that sense of humanity continued. Front Desk Assistant Tuhami handed me the key to Room 702 without hesitation and gently suggested that we complete the check-in formalities later, whenever my father and I felt better. No questions, no procedural rigidity, just understanding.
Room 702 was a one-bedroom business suite on the seventh floor, thoughtfully laid out with a bedroom, a sitting room, a powder room, and a fully functional kitchen. As we were three guests, extra beds had already been arranged, one in the bedroom and one in the lounge, with care and foresight. Both rooms opened toward the Green Dome, quietly present in our line of sight, like a constant reassurance. Inside, complimentary fruits and dry nuts awaited us, along with a handwritten “Welcome Back” note from the General Manager, Fahad Ibrahim Al Sayegh. Having stayed here before, that note carried warmth, familiarity, and a sense of being welcomed back rather than merely checked in.
Housekeeping staff Sharif and Akram maintained the suite with consistency and care. Whenever we needed anything, it was delivered promptly and courteously, without reminders or follow-ups.
During the stay, a drainage issue developed in the powder room. The plumber, Moin, arrived quickly, though the issue could not be resolved immediately. When I informed the front desk again, Tuhami and Duty Manager Marah offered to move me to another suite without hesitation and apologized sincerely. I chose to remain where I was. The following day, Marah personally ensured that the technical team resolved the issue properly, after which it did not recur. The way Marah and Tuhami handled the situation reflected calm leadership, quiet efficiency, and a reassuring sense that the guest was always the priority.
Mornings began at Rotana Restaurant, where warmth often arrived before breakfast itself. Farrah and Dhay welcomed guests with sincere smiles. Head waiter Sadiq managed seating with calm professionalism. Faizan prepared fresh omelets with care, while Mehboob Alam and Azhar ul Islam served tea and hot parathas with quiet pride. Service was consistently excellent. That said, the breakfast buffet felt more express than expansive. A traditional Arabic breakfast also feels incomplete without Umm Ali, which was absent throughout my stay. Its inclusion, along with a broader buffet selection, would elevate the experience to a level truly worthy of IHG standards.
Although my interaction with the concierge department was limited, senior bellman Hammada’s welcoming presence never went unnoticed. On one occasion, when booking a Careem became confusing due to location issues, a concierge officer assisted me efficiently. Unfortunately, I missed his name, though I recall him as the well-suited gentleman at the concierge desk. One facility that felt missing, however, was a proper luggage weighing scale. Hammada kindly provided a hand scale, which was sufficient for hand-carry items, but a full-size luggage scale would greatly benefit international travelers.
If I may offer a few suggestions for improvement, two stand out clearly. For elderly guests, the addition of support handles in bathrooms would significantly enhance safety and independence. Additionally, speakers connected to the Haram would allow guests who are unable to walk to the mosque to remain spiritually connected, hearing the Azaan and prayers and feeling part of the congregation from within their rooms.
I would also strongly encourage management to consider introducing Club InterContinental at this property. Its absence was noticeably felt, particularly the Club InterContinental Happy Hour, which would complement the location and guest profile beautifully.
This review is entirely based on my personal ten-day stay.
In conclusion, Dar Al Iman InterContinental Madinah was not merely a place to sleep between prayers. It was a space where care was instinctive, dignity was preserved, and people mattered more than procedures. While there remains room for improvement, the sincerity, responsibility, and compassion shown by the staff toward me, my sister, and my father transformed this stay into something far more meaningful.
That, in the end, is the difference between a good hotel and a memorable one.
