Matsui Honkan

Probably one of my best hospitality experiences ever. The service was excellent and the room was bigger than I thought, as well as very clean. They prepared some small care packages for every guest of our group with hygiene and care products, which i thought very thoughtful. Our room had extra blankets and pillows, which was practical. The breakfast is beyond amazing - as beautiful as it is delicious. The only thing is regret is that although we turned off the heating system, the room was still very hot and dry during the night (outside was cold), to the point that we had trouble sleeping.

Incredibly friendly, helpful staff - all speak English. A wonderful greeting with matcha before they explain how the rooms work for you. We also enjoyed a Japanese breakfast every morning, served in a traditional style and it was delicious. Beds are comfy, room has air conditioning and heating. It also has an onsen that is free for guests and as tattooed people, it’s one of the few in Japan we could use. Brilliant at the end of a day. A great experience and well worth the money.

Accueil extraordinaire! Chambre de type japonaise très confortable pour une famille de quatre. Déjeuners incroyables servis à la chambre. Nous avons profité de la proximité du quartier de Gion où nous sommes allés tous les jours à pied. Également à deux pas du marché Nishiki. Nous avons hâte à notre prochain séjour au Matsui Honkan!

This hotel was one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. Upon our arrival, we were greeted very hospitably with tea and sweets before being led to our room. The corridors seem to be made to look like old Kyoto and add to the hotel's traditional charm. The room was flawless, nothing to add there. The breakfast the following morning was an excellent Japanese breakfast, it was so big that it took all of our room's table space. We also had the opportunity to try a Japanese public hot bath for the first time, it was quite an experience! The bath is very beautifully decorated with views of an indoor garden. When we left, the hotel's staff came out with a banner to wish us a pleasant trip. Excellent hotel, would not consider going anywhere else if I ever return to Kyoto.

This is a lovely renovated ryokan with fantastic traditional breakfast (we had a tofu specialty dish) and impeccable service!

The place is very quiet. And it’s very convenient to go anywhere

Stayed in a Western style hotel for 3 nights then changed to this ryokan for one night. Traditional experience with room very comfortable and sleeping on futons the best. The staff were very friendly and helpful and when you leave they stand outside with banners to wish you goodbye. Great experience!

Lovely Ryokan hotel. We spent 2 nights and could enjoy great and unforgettable experiences. Room with Tatami floor was spacious and clean and we had slept perfectly well. Hotel staff was lovely and friendly. Thank you very much. Food was brilliant. Hot bathroom in the basement used to refresh and relax. Great location to discover Kyoto. We were totally happy for such fantastic experience.

Superb service. Convenient location (close to nishiki market, hankyu line stations, Gion area, Shijo karamachi etc)
