The Old Lodge

The young lady that showed me to my room and was also helping in the restaurant made me feel very welcome. Breakfast was very nice. Lovely location and very quiet after pub hours. Food was exceptional.

The noise from the pub restaurant downstairs could be a problem if you wanted an early night but it was Saturday.

The room was comfortable, with a good view out over the common. Parking was easy and the place was buzzing with hikers, golfers, families etc. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, but the food in the restaurant in the evening was the stand-out feature for us - absolutely delicious and way better than we'd hoped for. We would stay again just to eat there.

The decor of the superior room we were given was a bit tired and we felt it was overpriced. It seemed like everybody at the hotel except us had a dog with them and there was no escaping the animals. They were even allowed into the restaurant, and caused problems for the waiting staff by wrapping their leads around the waitresses' legs. I don't like dogs and it was a problem for me having them all around me all the time. Now we know, next time I'll ask if we can sit in a dog-free area. I don't know if there even is one, but I'll ask.

All the staff were really nice people and made us feel comfortable. The location is stunning. Breakfast was delicious and very filling.

The room bathroom and bed felt a bit small especially for my over 6' tall husband but I understand it is expected with the property. Just something to note.
