"A very enjoyable stay at 24 Royal Terrace..."

10.0

Great location, we were able to walk to most of the places we wanted to see. Tram stops were nearby. The room was beautiful, a superior double on the second floor. It had a view over the pretty garden at the rear of the hotel. The price is on the expensive side, however, all things considered we thought it was worth it and would stay again. Breakfast was really superb and we appreciated the fact that it was served until 12. It was freshly cooked to order and of excellent quality. Cleanliness was of a good standard and it was a quiet room - it was lovely to hear the birds in the mornings. The best part of our stay was the friendliness and service of the staff. That really makes such a difference. They were extremely helpful with suggestions of where to go and couldn't do enough to make our stay special. Thank you to all.

"Comfortable, clean, well appointed with exceptional staff"

9.0

It was very comfortable, quiet and well appointed. The staff were exceptional, friendly and helpful without being OTT. Breakfast was fabulous!

Nothing really - the art works are a substantive feature of the decor that cannot be ignored. Not particularly my taste but does not detract from this being a great place to stay

"Unique property in a quiet and convenient location"

8.0

Very clean, quiet and tastefully decorated property, on the North side of Calton Hill. Helpful, competent and friendly staff. This is a converted historic townhouse with around a dozen rooms and a couple of self-catering apartments. All hallways are decorated with original and eclectic artwork, essentially turning common spaces into an art gallery. The garden and seating behind the building is beautiful to experience. Due to the historic nature of the building no elevators can be retrofitted, so every room has to be accessed by stairs, even if on the 4th floor. While staff is kind enough to carry luggage, for us the daily comings and goings for 4 days were quite burdensome as we were in a 4th floor room. And that too after an uphill walk along Royal Terrace. We had a king room (essentially a double room with a king size bed) that was a disappointment in that it was a very tight squeeze for two people with luggage and difficult to navigate. Two things I wish were different. First, more transparency about the elevator situation and which floor assigned rooms would be on. Second, a king bed in a small room does not necessarily make the room a king room. Large beds should only be in larger rooms. The extra premium paid for the king room was not worth the money.

"Had a very enjoyable stay"

10.0

Our stay here was fantastic. Loved the unique feel of the property, warm and welcoming staff always ready to lend a hand or give help when needed. We ate breakfast each day of our stay, and felt it was a great value and a great start to the day. Especially appreciated the later offering of 8 to 12, kind of unique, but really helped us start our day off right. The property is in an excellent location, walking distance to important sites, and good restaurants close at hand. And the artwork! Drew several chuckles from us during our stay. We would definitely stay again should we return to Edinburgh.

"Feels like a hug from your favorite eccentric aunt"

10.0

What a spectacular place! Thoughtfully designed with art and color for a truly unique space. Great location just a short walk from all the great areas of town. But first, the service. Many employees have worked there 5+ years. Their kindness and attention to detail was impeccable; I felt genuine interest and care from each person I interacted with. The room was fabulous. Such cool decor. Bed was comfy, linens were dreamy, water was hot. Tea and kettle in the room, hair dryer, etc. It was lovely to open the windows and enjoy a cup of tea while listening to the birds chirp away. Note there is not a lift so being top floor was a hike BUT with all of the beautiful art, it felt like wandering up a museum. (They did take my bags up, thankfully!!) Let’s talk about the chefs! The food was delicious. The vegan haggis was so good I wish I’d asked the recipe. Have the breakfast, it’s the best I had in all of Scotland. The dining room is quiet and cozy with lots of natural light. I did not experience the whisky bar but heard lots of laughter and enjoyment from those who did. As the title indicates, this place feels like you’re going to your favorite eclectic Aunt’s house where she envelopes you in a big hug and you can relax all day on her colorful couch reading and laughing and having a wonderful time. This place is good for the soul.

Quirky personable and friendly

Chaotic interior design (perhaps part of its charm for some)
