The Place

We were very pleased with our stay at The Place! After a long travel day we arrived early to find that not only was our room ready, they had upgraded us! Our room had a beautiful city view and was grand and spacious. The shower was magnificent and the beds so comfortable. We paid for the specialty breakfast the first morning which was delicious and then paid for the Continental breakfast the next day which had plenty of choices! Would definitely return as it was within walking distance to everything!

Rom was massive. Amenities were fantastic. Great shower and pressure. Breakfast was good. Great location, 20 min walk to Edinburgh Castle.

Clean

Not enough light over the wash hand basin . I was in the basement where the noise from the drains was disturbing

A very cramped room with no ventilation up 5 flights of stairs.

This “Place” is awful and should be avoided if you like nice clean rooms and a decent bed. It has neither. All of the rooms are up flights of very steep stairs, some of them like the one I was in 6 flights. The rooms are tiny and not well appointed. It is located on a busy street with lots of traffic noise, sirens and the tram just outside. If you open the window of the stuffy rooms the noise makes sleep impossible. The beds are shocking. When I sat on the bed I could feel the hard base. I didn’t sleep at all. The walls in the room were covered with black scuff marks where people had tried to fit their suitcases into the cramped space. Do yourself a big favour and go somewhere else. The worst decision of my holiday was to choose this dump.

Lovely old building, high ceilings, cornersings. Tasteful decor. Brilliant location for all our needs.

Great rooms great location great staff

We stayed here for one night en route to the Highlands. We found the hotel to be very nicely appointed and centrally located hotel with excellent and friendly service. Our room was nice but at very top and with no lift - however staff were able to bring our bags up to the room.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. We were allowed into our room early which was great since we had an overnight flight from US. The hotel is quite old and we were on the 5th floor with no elevator. It is also quite hot at the top with no AC. Bathroom is quite small. I am not large by today’s standards and could not turn around in the shower. The toilet is tucked in between the sink and shower. Do not book unless you are quite fit and nimble. Also no temperature control in the room. If you need cold to sleep this place is not for you. Great location, very easy to walk to most areas of town.
