The George & Horn near Newbury

The staff was lovely. That’s the only saving grace for this place. It has so much potential but hasn’t been spruced up in a long time. The beds were so uncomfortable. The room needed a major cleaning and updating.

We were made to feel very welcome and the staff were very helpful. Unfortunately, the premises heating system was on the blink and engineers were on site trying to remedy the problem. Our room was cosy but the public rooms were very cold especially at breakfast.

I booked a 1 night stay here for my wife and I for our 12th anniversary, the room was too hot, the customers and staff leaving the venue were noisy, but the bed was comfy and had a good nights sleep. Next morning we sat down for breakfast, staff were friendly and service was quick, however there were no condiments on the table or offered, mushrooms were very well cooked but tasted funny so much so we didn’t finish it and residents were only entitled to 1 hot drink with breakfast but my wife was offered a glass of water, it was so bad that we had to pay for an additional breakfast at another location 5 mins walk away.

A nice BnB in a quiet location at a very good price

The hotel was cheap enough and provided breakfast in the room price. The host was friendly and helpful. The front room had quite a lot of traffic noise. Carpets not in great condition and a lot of dust in the room. Overall ok for the price but a little more attention to cleaning would give a much better experience.

George & Horn is a traditional non-franchise pub. A menu of ;homecooked' food and situated in a village. It has character and one of the nicest breakfast I have had in a while. Very good value especially when compared with a functional but no real atmosphere Travel Lodge. A very pleasant short stay with friendly staff.

Quirky little room and has real character ie door frames s and floors slope but not a problem and having read other reviews was a bit concerned about noise from the bar but it was okay. Stayed in 4* hotels which were noisier. Food in the evening was excellent as was the full english breakfast. Big shout out to the staff who were all excellent. Would I stay again? without doubt

There was no TV in the room. The wifi is incredibly poor in the room. The bathroom has mold. Breakfast doesn't start until 8am. I could go on but you get the general idea.

Great little pub, with great rooms, great service, confotable, and great value

The George and Horn is a very good value pub type stay. The food is fine and hearty and the pub itself welcoming and warm. The room was fine, except for the shower curtain which was filthy. Not sure if it was mould or mud, but either way, not a great look. The rest of the room was clean and comfortable and apart from early morning car park noise was quiet. My biggest gripe was breakfast. Most people stay somewhere for work which has a breakfast to set them up for the day. Most people also start about 8.30. To find out breakfast was only served from 8 ruled it out for me. They offered me a sandwich to take with me, but no-one had yet opened the door by the time I had to leave, so missed out. They said it was a licence issue, but I don't think licences affect breakfast serving time. Half an hour earlier would have guaranteed much return business, but I don't want to stay somewhere without breakfast, especially if it's part of the deal. I suppose next time I could take my own... Overall though, a pleasant stay. Not sure if I'd go back but for the price it's very good value as long as you don't have to be up early.
