Hostal Josefina

It was a nice stay even though they don’t let you check in early. I always put in expedia to check in early but they said they don’t have any available rooms. The housekeeping gave us attitude because we left our luggage and get ready in their tiny storage and bathroom. On the other hand, the room is clean and close to everything.

I'll give it 5 stars for location. Price is good. Place is clean and basic. Wifi is decent. It's all I need.

Nice location, perfect view! although the air conditioning is controlled by the staff so it was always or too hot or too cold. actually there was no problem when it was cold because you can adjust, but when it was hot.... OMG!!!! (also the employees were very good) the hostal is right in the center of gran via, so you are near everything!!!! :)

We were so pleased with our room! It was large, clean and fully stocked with clean towels, and our bathroom was lovely! Would definitely go back !

an excellent location & a bright view from balcony tiny & cosy hostel, seems few rooms were divided just in the middle where window was so it was like a half-window in the room we turned on fresher & opened a window, it was too hot in July pretty clean, nice bed, I LOVED pillows everyday cleaning & shampoo/bath refill no everyday water ;( a very warm reception, always trying & willing to help, but poor english has an elevator to 7th floor but day by day it's broken so we used a laundry elevator

Entry and elevator look like they haven't been touch since 1965. It happened many time that we wait for the very solicited elevator, one one that deserves many hotels.. The room was small although the bathroom was ok.

Good to have a 24hr reception as a hostel. Strange thing is reception cancel the previous charge on my credit card as he told me that the original charge was EUR 0.56 less. He did a re-charge on my credit card without informing me. When I checked my credit bill, the original charge is actually correct. Now I will have to pay for the exchange rate charges for the 2 transactions.

We stayed here two nights as part of a three week back packing holiday of central Spain. Having already spent five nights in a beautiful self catering apartment in Madrid earlier in our holiday , we wanted a few nights before returning home and 114 euros for two nights on grand via was cheap. Room was good ,clean tidy and a spectacular view of Madrid roof tops . Air conditioning is not very good and I would not use this hotel if it was in the summer months although windows are large and open wide. The hostel is on 7 th floor of a beautiful building but the lift is out dated and very busy so sometimes need to wait. For breakfast we went to rodillos in the square over the road as the cafe next to hostel charges 4 euros for coffee. In rodillos we had 2 coffee and 2 pastries for 4. 60 euros so big difference. Shopping is brilliant in this area and it's handy for other sight seeing venues. We ate in Chinese vegetarian restaurant buffet meal for approx 8 euros each and food was good. Turn left from hotel then left again in street next to hotel. All our holiday we never used any guided tours ,just pick up a map from tourist office ,buy book of 12 tickets for metro and bus and walk around . We both in late 60s but did not have a problem and there are so many beautiful places to see. We got a bus from Madrid to Segovia and spent a wonderful day there ,it was 13 euros each bus fare but a tour will cost much more so beware.

The best thing is location! Just two steps to almost any tourist attraction! Well, we has some communication difficulties when checked-in: we did not speak Spanish and the staff did not speak English. Luckily, there was an Italian-speaking maid and we could understand each other :) The staff was even so nice to cool our beverages! :) Our room was with off-street windows. And that supported our quiet night dream! Also we were, at first, disappointed about central air conditioning instead of air conditioner in the room. But the air cooling was enough and we did not feel the difference.
