"NIce enough but could use some work"

6.0

We enjoyed our 1 night but the room could use some work and the shower curtain leaked badly not matter what we tried. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. It is a short drive to Urbino and the view from the dining room was great. The pool was not working when we were there in late May.

"Reasonable for the money but food could be better"

6.0

We stayed here last week as part of a tour. Our room was comfortable and our bathroom was fine - no problems with shower curtains (no one had one!) although water did get around a bit. The staff were very good, and the food on some nights was good, but on others, really not good. Breakfast was basic but there was plenty to eat. The hotel is around 30 minutes walk from the town or a bit less, and the walk would not be a problem for someone who is of average fitness. There are buses too. The bar/sitting area overlooks the valley, and has a super view. We did not use the outdoor pool. Overall, I understand this hotel is not expensive and for a reasonably priced hotel it is okay.

"A Hotel time has passed by !"

6.0

My wife and I stayed at this hotel between June 13th and June 16th 2011 as part of a Page & Moy tour of Central Italy. As hotels go it was OK (just). The setting was stunning overlooking distant hills and valleys of Umbria to the North West and North, though this was unfortunate for me, for a reason I will explain later ! The staff were all very good, some speaking English and eager to help where necessary. The food we both enjoyed with a choice each evening including fresh salad as well as vegetables, meat and fish and a choice of several wines priced at around 12-20 Euros a bottle - pay as you go.. But the breakfast was basic continental. It was the rooms and public areas that let the hotel down. The room furniture seemed to have been acquired from jumble sales about 50 years ago ! Nothing matched, whilst the bathroom we had was vintage 60's, the shower almost ineffective, a mere trickle hanging precariously off the wall with a flimsy curtain surround. Yes we slept OK but it was not a room to enjoy in the true sense of the word - adequate just, and kept clean each day. And the other main disadvantage, if you hadnt hired a car, was the fact that it was a good 25 minute walk from the town centre up and down hills. Yes there was a bus service stopping right outside the door - cost 1.05 Euros each way - but it was erratic from the town centre and if you were slow in getting off then hard luck ! If you are on Page & Moy tour then you'll just have to grin and bare it - the next hotel is much better. But for a night's stay well it is fine. However at that time of the year we were the only visitors apart from one French group that stayed one night. The hotel needs a lot of TLC and up grade before it can puff its chest out. Sad And the disadvantage of its outlook for me - on 15th June there was a Total Eclipse of the Moon. It rose at the front of the hotel over houses and a main road, very dark eclipse and through a misty horizon. Hopeless to photograph. ! But if we had been the OTHER side of the valley then - wooppee !! Such is life.. Astro Travel Tony Ireland Cheltenham England

"Stay here if you have a car"

6.0

Finding a hotel in Urbino is a nightmare – a series of one way streets, no cars allowed in the old city unless you're a resident and very poor signage. After driving around the walls for some time we came upon a sign for this hotel. We decided to stay since it looked fine and the price was right. The hotel is older than it looks and it does have a feel of benign neglect to it. The disinfectant smell is everywhere in the hotel. Our room was quite large and the windows overlooked the beautiful valleys. The room was clean and bright. We opened the windows to clear out the disinfectant smell and used the air conditioner during the night to bring in fresh air. The bathroom was fine, except for the small shower enclosed with a shower curtain that either could have been cleaned or changed. The towels were cotton waffle weave and not very absorbent. The television was a good size and had BBC. Breakfast was very good with a wide variety of choices, including boiled eggs. The hotel is about 10 minutes by car from the old city. There is a 24 hour pizzeria near the hotel that serves excellent pizza at a good price. Overall the hotel was quiet, with nice views of the valley, near the old town by car and restaurants. It has free parking and free WIFI in the lobby. It was a good hotel for us for one night, allowing to visit the beautiful old city of Urbino. The hotel could figure out a way to get rid of the disinfectant smell and give the whole complex a brightening up. The furniture in the lobby and restaurant was beautiful, solid wood antique- looking pieces.

"Cheerless..."

4.0

Where to start ? The hotel has good views from rooms at the front, but we had a room at the back facing a steeply sloping bank of trees about 20 feet away, with the sky only visible by craning the neck upwards. The room was thus very dark and very small, with faded decor, twin very narrow low beds, and a bathroom so tiny one had to squeeze around the door to get in. At least our bathroom had a shower curtain and toilet seat, features lacking in other rooms offered to our tour party. The food was generally served lukewarm, small portions, and requests for extra (ie.g. when the salad ran out) met with sullen faces. One cereal sized bowl of chips was considered sufficient for a table of six adults. The staff were generally unsmiling. The hotel's location is a 30 minute walk from Urbino through unprepossessing and busy streets, and the bus service doesn't run in the evenings. Altogether a most downbeat start to the first four days of our holiday, but luckily our next hotel in San Sepolcro was excellent and made up for some of our dissatisfaction with Hotel Tortorina.

"Beware!"

4.0

I unfortunately, like my fellow travellers, had no choice in being deposited in this sad, run-down hotel "in" Urbino. Please know "in Urbino" is a euphemism as it is a bus ride away. I was travelling with 4 British friends within a larger group for a total of 40. Let me start with the positives of which there are two-the views are lovely and the staff, few in number, were hard working-that's it. The first thing that struck me as we located our rooms was the odor of disinfectant. The rooms were small and dark, mine had no air-conditioning and a 10-12 inch television-vintage 1952 I think-granted I do not travel to Italy for the TV but it is an amenity nevertheless. The beds, in every room, are nothing more than "camper-cots with springs"-either separated for twin or pushed together for doubles-they are not proper beds with mattress, box-spring, etc. The shower curtain in my bathroom was darkened, on the bottom, with mold and mildew; towels were rationed on a one-for-one basis. One of my friends was assigned a room with an odor, most foul-it clearly was the bathroom and, more specifically, the bidet-now IF anyone had inspected the room BEFORE we arrived, this would have been apparent. She was reassigned to the HANDICAPPED room-certainly not what she wanted or paid for. The dining room was large, but cheerless with insufficient staff to serve a group as large as ours. The food was adequate and to say that for the region of LE MARCHE where the food should be excellent is NOT a compliment; we swore that many of the vegetables served were "tinned" and not fresh Also please know that the swimming pool, although adjacent to the hotel, is a PUBLIC pool-the hotel does not comment but leaves it to be assumed that it is theirs. .To have stayed in this hotel for 4 of our 8 days in LE MARCHE was depressing; I cannot imagine anyone choosing this place voluntarily. Make no mistake that the company I used will be receiving additional commentary on their thoroughly unacceptable choice,
