Kohaku-an Machiya Holiday House

Authentic japanese house, beautiful inside and out. Greatly recommend!

Additional wardrobe would be nice.

Everything was nice and clean, in good condition.

The lounge/kitchen area felt a little dark during the day.

Traditional Japanese house with everything you might need for your stay. It is on a busy road but we weren’t disturbed by road noise. Good transport links close to Tori gates and Gion area. The staff at main checkin which is different from house were great stored our luggage and then arranged free delivery to the house.

Quiet dark inside the main room as little natural light, but no a problem.

An authentic, renovated townhouse with original Japanese features and a sparkling modern bath/shower area. The western beds were very comfy. The location was great -easy walking distance to a bus route and train route and a couple of temple/shrines nearby too. There was a convenience store just metres away and a supermarket just a little further. The check-in office for Machiya Houses is just a short walk from the Kyoto station. The staff were helpful with providing maps and recommendations of where we should go on a rainy day and alternative ways to get to our residence. We were also able to leave two pieces of luggage with them and have them delivered to our residence for free. It was so easy to check out too - we just closed the door! If you have a car there is parking area nearby too that is reasonably priced.

Each bedroom is small but the living area makes up for it.

We loved our stay here. A great option so close to a bus stop and train to explore Kyoto and all it has to offer. A fantastic traditional home.
