Friars Carse Country House Hotel

Beautiful location and outlook. Suite was huge with lovely views and evening meal was very good. Continental breakfast included. Old wooden panelling, comfy sofas and general Scottish feel of the house was lovely.

Property is a bit tatty and in need of general maintenance such as cleaning windows and painting window frames etc. but this is reflected in the price. Scottish country house vibe is lovely and we would return.

The staff were welcoming and attentive. The location is beautiful by the riverside in lovely grounds a few miles from Dumfries. Bed was comfortable.

The evening meal was overpriced pub grub and not particularly good pub grub either. Breakfast choice was poor they clearly intend you pay the extra for cooked options. The hotel itself needs a refresh, the walls in our room were poorly patched up in several places and the shower is just mixer taps not what you expect these days.

Absolutely gorgeous setting within woodlands and adjacent to the river. Beautiful exterior. Fantastic grounds to walk our dogs.

Housekeeping poor, dust over surfaces in the room. Stains on walls. Toilet seat far too small for the toilet base. Generally tired looking hotel, interior in need of refurbishment. Extremely noisy as there was a wedding celebration in a marquee on the lawn below our room. Guests from the wedding were also staying overnight so I am not sure why we were not allocated a room at the rear of the premises where it was quieter. Very noisy wedding guests, shouting in corridors until the early hours of the morning. Thankfully, this was only one night and we slept well on our second night. No available places in the car park due to large number of wedding guests.

Quiet location

Had to send breakfast back was uncooked and cold hotel in desperate need of a revamp and some paint and investment.
