"Wonderful retreat!"

10.0

Super friendly and helpful staff. This place is a gem and walking distance to the gay beach and nightlife while still maintaining a secluded vibe up in the hills. I had a beautiful view from my room and loved all the amenities including the gym. The pool bar was great for socializing and the restaurant on site was great for a late morning breakfast. This is my 3rd stay here and I will be back again!

"Not Impressed"

2.0

We booked a cabana for the Adam & Steve pool party months in advance. When we arrived, we found that they had given the ONLY cabana to another party. They placed us in a couple of “VIP” double lounges by the pool stating that it was comparable. The cabana is on a separate floor, very private with its own hot tub. The lounges were in between the pool and bar in a very high traffic area. The cushions were dirty. Not comparable at all! The overall space was dirty as well. The go-go dancers constantly harassed us for tips. Very disappointed with the experience. We would not go back.

"I’d stay elsewhere. Needs updating."

4.0

We just returned from an annual trip to PV, which included our first stay at Casa Cupala. We based our choice on the previous reviews and high ratings, so felt it was appropriate to share our experience. I'm listing our obversations below, but in short, we wouldn't stay at Casa Cupala again. Based on the price, product and our experience this is our review (as compared to experiences at other clothing options gay hotels such as Pineapple Point in Floriday and Twin Palms in Palm Springs). For the price, there are several other options in gay options in PV I'd pick over this - even though they don't have 'clothing optional'. Pros Beautiful views Our room was very comfortable (we stayed in one of the suits). It was very quiet and comfortable. Staff - as others have noted, the staff is very attentive and helpful. Food - we only ate breakfast at the Bistro, and it was enjoyable. Most mornings they also gave us a complimentary sweet (hot out-of-the oven muffins, valentines day cookies, etc). Clothing optional - if this is important, it's available only at the pool club (which is only open from noon-7pm) Neutral Accessibility - if accessibilty is important to you, you'll struggle at this resort. There are stairs everywhere - even within our suite. We would tend to walk into town, and between the resort and the public stairs, i counted approximately 250 steps down before we were in town. Ubers are inexpensive, so if stairts are a challenge, you can get an uber/to from Cons Upkeep - while the room was comfortable and clean, the resort is dated and is in need of some updating (more noted below) Pool - the pool club is only open from noon-7pm. Im an early riser, and was hoping to sit in the hot tub, but was informed that the pool club is only available at noon. This makes no sense to me. I was told i could use the other pool / hot tub, but the other hot tub wasn't working. Gym - the gym has a strong oder (mold?) and a number of pieces of equipment aren't working properly Weekend Pool Parties - they are very loud and feel "forced" with a MC who forces people to engage by asking where they are from, if they are single, etc etc. And there is a "secret garden" that gives the vibe a bit of a bathhouse feel. No judgement, but very different from other clothing optional resorts I've stayed at in the past. Also, hotel guests don't get preference with seating at the weekend pool parties - you'll be told that you can sit at one of the high top tables in the back for no fee, or reserve chaise lounges or a couple other tables with a minimum spend of $150. This is on top of the $400+ you're paying per night. Suggestions for the hotel Pool club - figure out a way to make the pool club available 24/7 like other clothing optional pools, or at the very least extend the hours so people can enjoy it in the morning and late into the evening. Other clothing option hotels do this (Pineapple Point in FL, Twin Palms in PS, etc) - you can figure this out. Invest some money into the main pool, gym, second hot tub, etc. Even the electronics in the room can use a bit of updating. I don't know the last time i saw a radio receiver for music. Host an evening happy hour for hotel guests to give them a chance to mingle and get to know each other

"Not worth it."

2.0

Went with my partner. First of all they will be super nice to you over the emails but ignore you when you get there. The hotel food and drinks are super expensive and do not open a tab as they charge other people’s drinks to your tab. Our room had water coming from the air conditioner and they gave us a room beneath the pool bar where we could hear chairs dragging all the time. I did not find the staff friendly at all. Wouldn’t go back and don’t recommend going. Also had a burger that was undercook that landed me in the hospital.

"Best place for gay singles and couples in Puerto Vallarta"

10.0

Our second visit to Puerto Vallarta and a stay at Casa Cupula. We stayed in the Oaxaca Suite and (pro tip to those who are or have a partner who is a birder), the bird watching from the expansive balcony is superb. Thirty-plus species a day on the poolside Bursera trees, with parakeets and orioles among the regulars, and a Colima pygmy owl and black-headed grosbeaks among the specials. Don't let Casa Cupula's caution to guests that the room's balcony overlooks the hotel's clothing optional pool club and hence might be a bit noisy for some guests put you off -- the pool club opens at noon and closes down at 7 pm weekdays and 8 pm on weekends. We weren't disturbed at all. After a few days away visiting nearby San Pancho and Boca de Tomatlan, we returned and stayed in the Bella Vista Suite. The bird watching is not quite as as good as the Oaxaca Suite, but the large suite itself was beautiful and the size of a small house. The view from the very large balcony was excellent. Breakfast choices were good and the staff were generally attentive. The reception staff and concierge were excellent. Fellow guests were friendly, fun, and attitude-free. The hotel has its own car and driver for hire which is a plus. Overall, the best place for gay singles and couples to stay in Puerto Vallarta.

"Another good stay."

Short walk into the old town. A great view of the coastline, especially from the pool. Fun vibe at the weekends with pool parties and activities. Food at the Bistro was great, and service at the whole hotel was friendly and efficient.

"LIKE BEING AT A GAY CIRCUIT EVENT"

8.0

The easiest way to review the property for me is to say who the hotel is for and who it is not for. PROS: Beautiful views, great customer service, car available most times at no extra charge but I suggest tipping. We stayed in the Penthouse which was beautiful. Look at their website for more on the room and amenities. Room service was actually really good quality food. Most all taxis in town know exactly where the hotel is so never an issue trying to find return transportation. The bed was incredibly comfortable and having a washer and dryer in the until was great. Boris the manager was outstanding. CONS: Very very noisy. Pool parties can last for over 6 hours. They use a microphone and it's like being in a gay circuit event the entire stay. Clothing optional during the weekends. If that's your thing. Yes, I'm older, but it is like being at the White Party the entire stay. This hotel in NOT for anyone trying to have peace and quiet. Everything starts at noon and ends around 10 or 11pm. There is no escaping the noise unless you wear earplugs in your room the entire time. Also, there is a gay bar within feet from the hotel that also plays loud music. So if you're looking for a quiet romantic escape, this is not the place. It would have been perfect minus the cons.

Besides the two leaks in the roof which were small leaks due to the being raining season, I found it very inconvenient that if I wanted to have someone sleepover that I met with during the parties they had and then partied with them at the beach, which is in walking distance as well Felt it inconvenience that I am being charged for having that guest spend tonight in my room that I purchased for the weekend. Seems like another scam for them to get some money from you aside from what you’re already paying.
