"Parking is a pain if by car."

8.0

The room was large and very clean. Bath was like a hospital bath with all the handicap accessories. You pay for parking down the hill in one of the buildings of the hospital. Breakfast was standard fare and a little limited. Overall it was reasonable for Oslo.

"Not koselig/cozy"

6.0

I stay regularly at this hotel as I am a cancer patient and gets treatment at the next door hospital every fortnight. The rooms are very modern in a bad way, cold style, simple, cheap-modern and awkward designed. Poor lighting for reading, the tv is misplaced, the remote control rarely works, bad taste or no decoration at all in room, with echo sound and it seems as nothing has been done to make you feel at home. There is a constant summing/buzzing/wizzing noise in the room that can make any sane person go mad! The food is ok, but at breakfast the simple but nice marmalade or jam on toast is not an option. The seating in the restaurant is not particularly nice. No atmosphere. I get to stay at the hotel (for free) as part of my treatment (and because of long travel distance). So I am very grateful. But now it’s time for me to express my frustration on the atmosphere and service at Hotel Montebello. I’ve been a guest here from 2014-2019.

"Fair enough"

6.0

Very clean and quiet. Staff was okay: efficient and polite, as you can expect from norwegians. But not the most welcoming and charming hotel staff in the world, as you can expect from norwegians. Food was okay. You need to pay for the Wifii. Yoy might get nice views, or a wall.

"Very poor experience - had hoped for much better,"

4.0

First, the positives: the hotel is not in central Oslo but it is very easy to access with public transport. It was quiet and clean. I had a stunning view out over Oslo and the fjord. Then, the negatives. The reception service was awful. I asked a very basic question about transport in Oslo, and the receptionist was unable to answer. I was never told about 24/7 access to breakfast room (something I would have greatly appreciated as there was no way to make coffee/tea in the room) and only just learned about this service through reading other reviews of the hotel. No info regarding checking out times. Breakfast times are late if you are in Oslo for work. I had ten minutes in the morning to have breakfast or I would have been late for my meetings. Timings are particularly bad during weekends when the hotel restaurant then shuts at 6pm - awkward when my work finished at 5pm and I had to make my way back to the hotel. It is DEFINITELY not catering to business travellers! The room itself was nice. It was not big, but it was adequate and modern. However, the windows were drafty and when I sat in the armchair, I got very cold. Eventually I realised the warmest place in the room was the bed. I tried working at the desk, but - again - the draft made that impossible. So strange that a modern building has drafty windows. Pulling the curtains did not help. No blankets available apart from the duvet. No folders in room informing guests about amenities. Wifi & TV are both extra. No kettle, but there is a small fridge. I will return to Oslo, but I will not return to Hotel Montebello. It was an odd and unpleasant stay. I don't mind a basic hotel - but there are good basic hotels and Montebello isn't one of them.

"Not to recommend"

2.0

I had a single room and the view was into a wall. Internet was not free, and I had to log in every time I had left the property. The lady in the reception did not know much about service. I have never experienced a place with such a low variety of bread and cereals, yougurt, fruits and berries for breakfast. The ladies who cleaned the room were the best. Stay away!!

"Nice rooms, friendly staff, bad food"

6.0

The hotel is connected to radiumhospitalet, a hospital that treats cancer patients. I stayed here several times to support a family member. The double rooms are large, clean and modern. Double rooms are overlooking the backyard with flowers and benches. If you are here during summer and the weather is good it will get hot! We brought a fan the last time. The single rooms are on the other side of the building and does not get that hot. The receptionist said they couldn't use the AC, to prevent spread of disease (lowered immune system in patients). Receptionists, cleaners and kitchen personal have all been friendly. The breakfast is ok. The dinner however is really bad most of the time, and expensive (180 NOK). I'm not even a patient but i got nauseous two times. I dont understand how they can serve low quality food in a patient hotel for cancer patients that don't have appetite to begin with. I guess for tourists it doesn't matter, since you will eat out anyway..

"basic clean hotel & will return"

8.0

Clean and easily accessible via public transport which is good because it isn't central. Only problem we had was the maid removed all towels from our room after one day but was quickly sorted by reception. Remember to lock your door on leaving - we didn't realise it doesn't automatically lock like most hotel doors. Would definitely return!

"Great stay at Hotel Montebello"

10.0

It's not so far from the city, you can take a metro to get there, and then it's another 5-10 minute walk. It's a very nice and quiet place to stay. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. And not expensive at all, breakfast included and good! The staff is really helpful: we needed a taxi at 3 a.m. because we had our flight back in the early morning. So they called one for us.
