Guyers House Hotel

Very restful and a great mix of comfort and character

Lovely settings but felt staff were not particularly obliging

Booked for two nights . Beautiful house with friendly staff. Room basic but clean and functional. House keeping is excellent.. room was immaculate and fully restocked when we returned on Saturday evening. Breakfast a real disappointment. Ordered vegetarian but they had no vegetarian sausages so asked if I could have an extra egg in its place ..waitress went to ask the chef who said this wasn't possible. Requested my single egg poached, as the fried egg I was given the previous day was snotty and swimming in grease . Chef ignored my request and sent a greasy fried egg . Husband was unable to eat his sausages as he said they tasted like theyd been reheated Not sure whether this was the same chef (Dave) who wasn't doing food at 7pm Sunday evening resulting in us driving round looking for somewhere to eat and ending up with a bag of chips from the local Chinese!!. Best thing about this Hotel is without doubt , Sarah.. she went out of her way to make us feel welcome ..despite running the bar and manning reception single handed . Pity Sarah couldn't have cooked Breakfast too , I'm sure it would've been a huge improvement on the "Chef".

This hotel was stunning! We loved the buildings, and the grounds that we were able to stroll around. We had a dog with us, and he was provided with a bed for his stay, and also a toy to take home with him. The staff that we met were lovely, and the service was great. We had breakfast each morning (served in the bar because the dog wasn't allowed in the restaurant), and it was delicious each time. Everyone needs to go and stay here! Our room was very comfortable. The only slight negative was that there were some minor bits of maintenance needed in our room. Other than that, it was a perfect stay, and I would happily go back.

From check-in to check-out my experience was exemplary. On arrival the view of the hotel was stunning. Check-in was efficient and I was soon in my room which was spacious and spotless. Before dinner I went to the (also spotless) bar for an aperitif. Good selection of drinks to choose from, I tried the Orchard Pig cider and was satisfied with my choice. Dinner menu was refined with a good variety. I had a melt in the mouth steak for mains after a Ham Hock Terrine. Service was faultless. I retired to a very comfortable bed and had a pleasant night's sleep. In the morning I went to the (again) spotlessly clean breakfast room. The breakfast menu was very appetising but I only had cereal as I had a long drive home and didn't want to be uncomfortably full. I visited Chippenham to watch a football match and will definitely book Guyers House Hotel when I come here next year

Booked through booking.com on a non refundable deal, due to unforeseen family circumstances we needed to change the date which booking.com agreed to. Guyers house flatly and very rudely refused but booking.com negotiated the change for us. We were then informed that guyers could not honour this booked date due to being full. On the date we wanted we contacted guyers to ask if there was any rooms and surprise surprise there were rooms available. Nasty mean spirited and very rude manager at guyers, Will never go back there.

The hotel buildings are lovely and are set in the most wonderful grounds, worthy of being an open garden in their own right. Our room was comfortable. On arrival we asked for afternoon tea but no cake or scones were available and we were presented with a plate of hobnob biscuits which was a bit of a let-down. The evening meal was fine but surprisingly we were the only guests sitting in an empty dining room which was on the chilly side. The breakfast buffet was very underwhelming although the cooked food was excellent. The hotel is sadly let down by its interior decor which simply doesn't match the style of the building. The dining area is sterile and uninviting with an odd collection of pictures on the wall which reinforced the fact that the place doesn't quite know what it's trying to be. The furnishings were reminiscent of a cafeteria or care home rather than an elegant country house. Something is going wrong if a hotel with such potential is empty over Easter weekend. Call in the hotel inspector and get the rooms fully booked. This place should be making a fortune with such magnificent grounds and buildings.

An overnight return visit after 12 years. All staff served us well. Room was comfortable and clean. Room starting to look tired in places e.g. bathroom window difficult to open, screws to handle loose and missing. There is an annoying noise by the electric charger parking area, generator or the like. Would have been a pain if we were sitting outside. But didn't hear in room. Lovely well kept garden areas.

Weather was lovely, stay very comfortable, evenibg meal and breakfast lovely. Rooms are very tired, but clean. Staff very attentive and help full.

From check in to breakfast and check out 5 Stars all good.
