Shaftesbury Lodge Guest House

Very spacious comfortable room with very comfortable bed with breakfast cooked to order with good choice and excellent service. Hot water takes a while to run through but is fine once it reaches you and noise from adjoining rooms and bathrooms can be heard so noisy neighbours would be an issue.

Great location to stay for business. Lots of road side parking available in front and around hotel. Short stroll into town for bars and restaurants. Great location. Room spotless and comfortable. Quiet too! Deffo stay again.

The overall dated appearance of this property is easy to ignore. It is a grand building and feels more like a hotel than a B&B, the double room I had was huge, plenty of storage and some nice amenities. It’s clear to see that the owners have all the intentions to provide a high level of service without penny pinching to maximise profit. The quality and presentation of the breakfast was outstanding and up there with one of the best I’ve had at any hotel. This place definitely deserves stay

Good place to stay

Nice stay in large old house. First room given had stale cigarette smell but owner changed us to another room.

Excellent hotel, close to a bus stop, and very clean and spacious room, with friendly owners.

In general the lodge was conveniently located for our visit, and the street parking easy to access. Room was spacious, but due to location on ground floor a bit noisy as the check was located just outside of room at the main entrance. It might be useful for the owner to consider moving the check in down the hall or into the shared common room across the hall as this room was rarely used by any of the clients during our 7 day stay. Wifi was spotty and this could easily be improved with installation of a few more WiFi locators. The spotty WiFi may have been due to not enough band width, again easily sorted. The finishing were fantastic in our bed room but dated in the TV room, these could be updated for little cost. The room lack a small refrigerator which all hotels provide, so we would recommend this be installed in all rooms for clients. Finally, travelers from North America do not us instant coffee, so in addition to the Nescafe sachets the owners should provide some better quality coffee, either ground with a french press or high end bag coffee.

Large rooms. Quiet and clean

I was very disappointed with this guest house, the reality did not match the description, the room was dirty and not cleaned properly, the shower was a joke, rooms and property very dated in need of a major refurb. I had considered leaving and booking somewhere else. I had booked for B&B only to told on arrival due to Covid there would be no breakfast, I was then asked if I would like to order an evening meal?? No offer of refund for breakfast, if you aren't offering breakfast don't advertise that you are. I wouldn't normally leave a review with photos but I have made an exception in this case. I will not be staying at this guest house again,
