Hotel Calacoto

A clean hotel in a safe neighbourhood. The rooms are mixed, some are quite small, others spacious. They are all clean with very comfortable beds. Generally good although the newer rooms have poor sound insulation. The wifi stops and starts a lot but that may be Bolivia. Service is mixed, the older staff are excellent some of the younger ones not so focussed. The breakfast is distinctly average and the restaurant OK but does not compete with what is available nearby. This used to be a much better hotel than it is now but it still represents good value for money.

When you touchdown in Bolivia in the El Alto airport, it might seem rather chaotic and daunting to know exactly where to go next. The Hotel Calacoto is a great spot for those who are willing to pay a little more for comfort and for security. A airport shuttle can be arranged (for a fee) however this makes life less complicated as the driver will pick you up right outside the immigration and baggage pickup areas. The car will have the emblem and name of the hotel emblazoned on it. The hotel is very modernized and the restaurant offers a great mix of Americanized food (hamburgers/pasta) and typical Bolivian dishes of Trucha (lake trout) and other carnes (meats). It is located next to the main road of Avenida Ballivian where you can catch taxis and mini buses to go into the city and the Calle 21 where there are many open market type stores for trinkets. I felt very safe in this hotel and they respect your privacy. The only issue I found was spotty wifi that works will sometimes and not so well other times. This is something that can be overlooked of course. The breakfast included was your typical continental breakfast with the ability to ask for fresh cooked omelettes.

I was there for a meeting. The hotel is nice and the service is good, staff were nice. Rooms were cold though and the heater was not enough. The area is really nice but far from the city centre. However, it is a few blocks from the "teleferico" which is a very good transport system.

I stayed for a week. They arranged for a transport to pick me up from the airport and a taxi to take me there whwn I left. Prices are affordable. Clean, big rooms. I changed room because it was too far from the lobby (annex 2) and moved to a nicer mini apt. Both rooms had hot tubs and large barhrooms, nice big bed and a room heater for those cold nights. I had a problem with the wifi coverage in the room and they worked to help me with it. Food is ok. I will stay here again next time I visit La Paz.

A long way from the main city center, which I was aware of, but it is also a little isolated in its location in Calacoto. You need to walk 20mins or take a taxi to find good restaurants, etc. The hotel is nice and the service and food is excellent.

We stayed in the hotel for several days and we really liked it. It is in a great location, within walking distance of great restaurants and a small shopping district. The room was very clean and comfortable. We had a room that had a lot of sunshine so it kept the room quite warm. There is a beautiful little courtyard in the second floor where we could sit to relax after coming back from meetings. The hotel also has an excellent wifi that is free and available in the rooms and the garden.

We are in La Paz for a wedding and are staying at this hotel on three separate occasions over a two week period. The hotel is very convenient for us in Zona Sur. The two rooms we have been in so far have been clean and comfortable and the staff have been very helpful. I have no hesitation in recommending it as a base in La Paz away from the bustle of the centre.
