Sorobon Luxury Beach Resort

Alles, prachtige tuin, waar de accomodaties in zijn gehuisvest, veel mooie vogels, kolibri, prachtige ligging aan lichtblauwe baai. Comfortabele kamers, vriendelijk personeel, goed eten.

I agree with some of the reviewers here, the use of the word "luxury" in its name is unintentionally deceiving/ There were many things that felt just right and perfect but many that also fell short of the mark. Some due to expectations based on price and the use of the word "luxury", others perhaps a bit of confusion as to what the resort wants to be. We had some conflicting thoughts while trying to select the right place to stay in Bonaire but overall glad we pick Sorobon. Here are some pros/cons and some insight to hopefully help set expectations. Pros: - location, secluded and on the quieter side of the island, we really like the shallow bay/reef, note it is windy (also a con) - resort had a slightly elevated feel, boutique like, not like the giant resorts in town. At low occupancy, the place is quiet and peaceful. - Nice clean spacious rooms with kitchenette, very few number of rooms so its a small resort. Having said that we were there in Sept just after all the European summer tourists have left so it was perfect. I can't imagine (nor do I want to be here) when it is full and sold out with kids everywhere in the summer. The rooms have recently been refurbished so everything felt really news which was a huge plus for us. - Nice super friendly and helpful staff (mostly). Ellis was a standout. He gave us some history of the place and their quest to upgrade the property. Most of the staff are young Europeans on a "working holiday" or "work abroad" from the continental EU mixed in with neighboring workers from Venezuela, so service is consistent with that level of training and experience, background and service culture. - Restaurant is pretty good, but being there for 5 nights, we ate out several time Cons: - because it was windy, wind surfing is a huge draw. That can make the resort and the area feel more bohemian-like which doesn't match the "luxury" brand it tries to use. The beach/water area can get crowded with wind surfers and swimmers trying to fight for space. I can't imagine being here in the summer. Not a problem in September (except weekends). - The resort (and most of Bonaire) isn't cheap. With higher prices, don't expect elevated service/product. - The fact that they open the beach club area to the public detracts from the experience. As somebody said, all the sunlounges were occupied by non-resort guests, even in front of our villa. Not quite the privacy we had hoped for.

I consider myself fairly critical when it comes to hospitality, but there is literally nothing bad I can say about Sorobon!! The staff is super friendly and attentive. Accommodations are clean and beautiful and the food is out of this world!! Fantastic location and a windsurfer’s paradise!

Wonderful time here again. So relaxed and casual but also great food, windsurfing and relaxing. Must mention Pleun, she was EXCEPTIONAL for the whole 2 weeks we were there. She is a lovely person and a very good waitress. Attention, patient, caring and nothing is too much trouble. Always happy, polite and a very hard worker! One evening she was clearing all the beds, pillows, towels and empty dishes, all on her own until it was dark. We saw her being very kind to an older couple who had mobility issues, making sure they were sat near what they needed. She took time to listen and understand what they needed. Really do think you are lucky to have such a hardworking and diligent employee. Thank you for a great holiday!

Die Unterkunft ist sehr gemütlich, sauber und wirklich schön eingerichtet. Es gibt im Zimmer eine Mikrowelle, Herd und Küchenzubehör, sodass man auch auf dem Zimmer gut kochen kann, wenn man mal keine Lust hat, auswärts zu essen. Kaffee und Spültabs gibt es umsonst. Die Bar ist sehr schön und bietet zudem leckeres Mitagessen und Dinner. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit bei Fragen. Zudem gibt es Sportangebote am Strand, zum Beispiel Pilates oder Yoga. Wir sind zum Windsurfen nach Bonaire geflogen und haben auch mit der zum Hotel gehörigen Surfstation sehr gute Erfahrungen gemacht. Auch hier ist das Personal sehr freundlich und das Material ordentlich und hochwertig. Es gibt Kurse und verschieden Möglichkeiten, das Material zu buchen und das Personal ist hilfsbereit bei Fragen.

Alles war bestens, wir haben nichts zu bemängeln.

My Sorobon beach experience was very awful, as I am sure of everyone else who attended the water to swim. Windsurfing people behavior is out of cottage, they outward nasty and obnoxious. In essence they not allowed people to swim in the ocean, and trying to run them over, or pretend that they will to scare the. Not going there, if you like to swim in the ocean near the beach.

Solid 4.5 Stars... with an asterisk. Writing as an American travelling with 2 small kids having been to Bonaire before and other resorts in the Caribbean. The good: You cannot beat the location and grounds. They maintain the grounds beautifully, the resort is safe and clean, the beach is amazing. There are plenty of chairs and cabanas, and we felt completely safe leaving our stuff out to spend hours in the water. The staff is friendly, they speak many languages, and they were so sweet to our kids. The rooms are clean, the housekeepers are lovely about coming at a different time to accomodate nap time. The kitchenettes in the rooms are stocked with sufficient pots and pans to make simple meals on the cook top - pasta, stir fry, grilled cheese, tacos, scrambled eggs, etc. The unexpected: a significant number of people were smoking cigarettes. Everyone is great about keeping the butts to the trash and ash trays, but you cannot avoid the smoke - on the beach or in the restaurant. There is a DJ that starts spinning 90BPM dance music starting around 10:30/11am to 4-ish pm. It isn't overwhelmingly loud or anything, but it definitely sets a tone. You need to grab a cabana early because the resort is open to the public. They are not closed grounds and many people from cruise ships or Kralendijk come on day pass to hang. There is only one restaurant on the grounds, and it is fancy-ish. If by design or language barrier, they cannot make adjustments to the menu items (no microgreens on my eggs, please - still comes with microgreens) nor go off menu AT ALL (could not make a cheese toastie even through they have bread and sliced cheese). The food is fresh, and we never had a bad meal. Even breakfast is served off a menu - not a buffet like many other resorts. It seemed like they didn't quite know if they wanted to cater to the cruise crowd, Europeans, Americans, etc. Not related to Sorobon directly, but all other restaurants on the bay close at 5/5:30, so the Reef Bar is the only dinner option in walking distance. We would ABSOLUTELY return.... but with the expectation that I would likely be cooking most of my meals in the room.
