Hotel Diego De Almagro Talca

Having been thwarted in our plans to drive north from Santiago and over the Andes to Mendoza, Argentina by landslides that had closed the highway, we had to find another way. The local Caribinieri recommended going south 200 some miles to Talca, and crossing the Andes there, so off we went. Talca appeared as a small blip on our map, so we were concerned about what we would find there. We were happily surprised to discover a good sized city. Inquiring of some locals, we were directed to Diego del Amargo. Compared to our experience in Chile with hotel prices, while not cheap, it was a relative bargain. The rooms were good sized, clean and modern. The staff was helpful and professional, and spoke some english. Secure underground parking was a big plus for us. Good, not great, breakfast buffet (more dissapointing coffee) and decent dinner menu. Small, enclosed, swimming pool with too much chlorine.

Not a bad hotel. It was pretty decent but I would not say better than average. The staff was excellent and helpful. The restaurant at the hotel was not very good. The location is not very good either. The room was fine except it seems like there was some construction or renovation going on in the room above us the whole time which was a bit unpleasant. But over all, not a bad place to stay. Not a whole lot of choices to choose from in Talca so this one is alright for a quick stop in. A bit overpriced also.

We only had a brief stay here arriving late afternoon and leaving early, but we found the accommodations suitable and pleasant. The rooms comfortable, staff cordial and helpful, and parking secure and indoors (basement). We had a good evening meal of sandwiches and fries. The breakfast was good. We would definitely visit here again.

Best place to stay in Talca, one of the nicest cities in Chile. Walk to everything.
