The St James

This was a very good place. The staff were very friendly and helpful and provided good information on the location (including a very interesting sculpture walk). The unit was comfortable and had everything that was needed.

An excellent motel, very close to central Hanmer Springs (and an easy walk to the hot pools, and to Monteiths Brew Bar. I especially like that the room had real (plunger) coffee - not instant. (Everyone, repeat after me: Instant 'coffee' is not coffee!) From now on, this will be my preferred motel whenever I visit Hanmer Springs.

Love! Our favourite accommodation on our 16 day travels on the South Island. Ticked every box! Comfortable, clean, luxurious, quiet, great location. Good wifi, close restaurants, laundry facilities. The only small issue was the light at night time coming through the kitchen window was super annoying.

This was our first visit since the change of ownership but it was pleasing to see that the very highest standards of service and cleanliness are still the same. Our room was superb in all respects and the management was both helpful and interested in the customer. Well done to the new owners. Without a doubt this is the finest all-round accommodation in Hanmer and over the years we have tried most of them but have always returned to The St James for its reliability and excellent value for money.

Although quite expensive it was a great place to stay. Handy to everything. No privacy on the balcony & the bed & pillows were hard. Super clean, good shower pressure, lots of hot water. Good toilet paper haha, assume it was three ply. We stayed on the second floor.

What a great place to stay after our day at the pools. Quiet, well appointed room with a nice view. Very comfortable and clean with everything you need. Jan is an excellent host. Will definitely stay again.

There was an issue with the refrigerator with over freezing and causing loss of food. Despite the very good TV instructions, accessing SKY was problematic,
