the gardens

the bath was filthy, we had a choice of 1 vegetarian dish, scampi or burger for our evening meal. we ordered a bottle of wine that didn’t arrive and then we asked for brown sauce at breakfast which arrived after we had finished.

outside it was stunning

inside the property-the rooms- had to wait ages for checking in- the breakfast wasn’t the best, no options given to look at allergies etc-there were spiders in the bathroom and room, and it looked disabled inside but pictures were really nice

Food was cold at breakfast. Could book for tea. Fire alarms going off at 6.45am

Room was tired , toilet wasn't very clean.

I was kept awake all night by a humming noise,emanating from another stable block room.I walked over to the main house at 1:30am to report the issue to the night porter,who returned to my room 17...to identify the cause...He confirmed he could hear the noise and suggested it was "The boiler"...11seconds silence 5 seconds hum.I counted these intervals throughout that night. I consequently had a very,very disturbed night. I reported the issue in the morning before breakfast to the receptionist and ask to see the manager...he was not available 9:30am..I was given his email address. In addition to my disturbed night in room 17...There was no soap or shower gel made available !.

The grounds of the property were lovely to walk around. Food was very nice. Our room was a lovely size and very spacious including the bathroom en suite! Price was good for the size of the room. I would come back if the property pulled itself up a bit more. Nice and quiet. We had a lovely view from our window to see surrounding green fields, tress and grazing sheep.

Property is rather tired and is in need of TLC, e.g. knocks and nicks in the walls, scuffed paint, old paint, parts of a room where furniture has been removed, holes not filled in etc. Our bedroom and bathroom en suite had several bulbs not working. Short hairs (possibly beard?) were left around bath taps and wash basin taps.

Room was full of cobwebs and dust, fan on ceiling caked in dust unable to use it.

The property is a magnificent building when viewed externally. However, whilst there was also some splendour internally, especially some ceilings in the main public rooms, generally the interior was "tired".It needs a large injection of cash to bring it up to scratch. Only stayed one night, to break a journey. Lovely grounds and the evening dinner, from the limited choice Sunday menu, was well cooked and presented. However, the waiting staff at dinner and breakfast need some training on how to welcome and assist guests. Proactive, rather than reactive. We were up-graded from a courtyard room to the main house. We were left wondering if the courtyard room would actually have been better. e.g. no toilet roll holder, so the rolls were out of easy reach on top of the cistern. A convenient place to stay when breaking a journey but, not somewhere to take a holiday. A reasonable price when compared with other hotels and, it is appreciated that this is part of a vicious circle of low price but insufficient income to make improvements

No shampoo in room and smelt a bit damp in tge stable block

Bed was comfy and tea/coffee available in room.

I slipped over on the bathroom floor as it was soaking wet causing me to bang my head.
