"Amazing time with friends"

10.0

The staff is what makes this place, Ramon and Eglady in the Sain Kaan buffet, Carlos (Charley Chan) serving drinks around the pool, Edgar at the Akumal buffet, Christian at The Smoked restaurant and Erandi in guest Services are all such great people. I can’t wait to see you all again in October😄

"Great hotel and staff !!"

10.0

We have just returned after 11 nights at the hotel and had a great time with no complaints. The hotel is in a jungle like setting and only a short cart trip to the other hotels in the complex and the beach - we never had to wait longer than 5 mins for a lift. Whilst the hotel is rustic in parts, our penthouse room, hotel and grounds were kept clean and tidy. We had checked in 10 days prior to arrival and managed to book the Al a cartes we wanted - yes we had to be flexible with days/times but perseverance paid off and we were happy with our selections - we even managed to book the Smoked on arrival through guest services. The buffet choices at all meals within the hotels was good and in our opinion you’d have to be hard pushed to not find something ample to eat. We loved the omelettes at breakfast really good! The entertainment team were engaging and very friendly - no pushing to join in which was great. The shows were good - we particularly liked the Jersey Boys and the Abba shows. What stands out for us from this trip is the staff - they are all an absolute credit to the hotel - always wore a smile and were very friendly. In essence we loved our stay and would definitely revisit!! Thank you for a great holiday xx

"Great Anniversary Holiday – Room Upgrade Made It Special !"

8.0

We’ve just returned from a brilliant 2-week stay at Bahia Principe Sian Ka’an, celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary with friends. We were lucky to be upgraded to a penthouse suite on arrival – the room was beautiful, spacious, and very well equipped. We also made great use of the sister hotels, and the trolley service was handy, although waits could sometimes be a bit long. The entertainment team, especially Fabian and Toti, were fantastic and kept everyone engaged with fun poolside activities. A couple of areas for improvement – we were told by TUI the Cenote restaurant was 24 hours, which wasn’t the case, and the buffet food was often lukewarm with flies seen on the fruit at breakfast. Overall though, a great holiday in a lovely setting and a special way to celebrate our anniversary.

"Not What I'd Expected"

4.0

Generally speaking I think it's better to under-promise and over-deliver, but unfortunately this resort does the opposite. They claim to be a "luxury" resort, but actually it's more like a three-star motel experience. I had a few major issues with this hotel. First, they put me (a solo female traveler) in a ground floor room with patio doors opening directly onto the pool area and pathway, and then were dismissive when a drunk man terrifyingly tried to break down my door in the middle of the night. They asked me to email them details of the incident (sent 2025-12-25 at 9:54 am) and then never responded or followed up. Staff also told me that they never cut off guests from alcohol service, no matter how drunk, violent and belligerent they get, because according to management they paid to get as drunk as they want, no matter who is put at risk. (PS - For some insight into the competence of the management here, when they gave me the email address to send my report to, the business card also had the log-in usernames and passwords for the internal email account and some other business accounts associated with payment processing. They're lucky I'm an honest person and would never use those codes to access their accounts!) The food was also extremely disappointing. I am a vegetarian, and the food on the buffet was borderline inedible. I have photos of "vegetable sushi" that clearly has slices of raw tuna on top. "Cheese tamales" ended up having chicken and pork inside. You could never trust the labels to accurately represent the ingredients in the dish. Mixed drinks were not made with real fruit juice, and had an overwhelming flavor of artificial sweeteners and fake syrups that made them not enjoyable. Finally, I have concerns about in-room fumigation that does not get disclosed. For the duration of my stay I experienced sinus irritation and headaches, but I couldn't figure out why. On the last day of my visit I was bedridden with stomach issues, and midway through the afternoon workers came with a machine to fumigate the room for bugs. I asked them if they had been doing that every afternoon when I was out of the room, and they said they had. I assume that the chemicals being sprayed were the cause of the sinus irritation and headaches, as I felt better within 24 hours of leaving the resort. So, if you can overlook all of that, the resort delivers on a solid three-star experience. Personally I didn't mind being away from the main beach and I liked having the option of eating at the restaurants at all the associated resorts. I spent most of my time at Tequila, where the vibe was a bit less dull. I liked seeing animals around the property. My room was spacious, with adequate A/C and hot water. If you're independent it's easy to hop on a collectivo at the resort entrance to get to Tulum or Playa del Carmen if you need a dose of reality during your visit.

"Hotel reducing A la carte restaurant access in November2026!!"

4.0

We stayed here in November 2025 having been coming back regularly for over 10 years. We love this hotel and it's jungle location and also the ability to book A la carte restaurants through out the resort hotels every night. "HOWEVER" I was recently about to book a 15 night stay here in November. My partner is a member of a Face Book group of repeat guests to this hotel and she told me there had been a number of comments that the hotel was changing it's A la carte restaurants policy on the 1st November! She said she had read that from the 1st November 2026 you would only be able to book 3 A la carte restaurants per week of your stay, currently it is unlimited. I couldn't believe this so checked the hotels own web site and sure enough it clearly states this is the case! I therefor decided to email the groups head office and also guest services at the hotel and they both confirmed this was the case. I also asked if the policy was also changing at the Akumal hotel and was told the guest there would continue to have unlimited access to A la carte's. The Sian Ka'an and the Akumal have always been classed as premium hotels in this resort, so it looks like they have decided to down grade the Sian Kaan. We are now looking at the many other adult only hotels in the area!

"Wonderful and Relaxing"

10.0

We had a wonderful stay in May 2026 This resort is a gem, set back in the jungle. The level of relaxation we experienced was second to none! The employees were all fabulous and this will keep us returning. The service is the perfect balance of being attentive, without seeming intrusive. We had previously stayed at BP Tulum with our children in 2025 and had a wonderful time. When it came to booking a couples trip Sian Ka’an was a no brainer, I feel it would be hard to beat this level of service at this price point. A bit about us: we do not drink alcohol, enjoy quiet and love being out in nature. We enjoyed a premium garden suite just behind the lobby. The outdoor hot tub was wonderful in the evening, we could hear the entertainment perfectly from our patio. A highlight of the nightly entertainment was the all female mariachi band, they are not to be missed (for this we went and got a table to watch them)! They are so talented. The room was spotless and the young man that cleaned for us was so kind and polite, we were leaving the room one morning and did not require cleaning service- he still asked if we needed more towels or anything for the mini bar! Everything in the room worked perfectly and we did not notice any wear and tear or deficiencies. The AC was wonderful and cool. We got 7 al a carte restaurant bookings with no issue at all (make sure to book 10 days before arrival!) our favourite was Katok, but they were all good. We had excursions booked the other days and didn’t want to book restaurants on those nights. The buffet food was WONDERFUL at breakfast and lunch. We were in Antonio’s section and that man is a gem. He had coffee and green juice at the ready as soon as he spotted us. He even took the time to help with my rudimentary Spanish. The ladies at the hostess stand were equally fabulous. The one dinner we had at the buffet was right before they closed and we still found food to enjoy. The Cenote snack bar also has great choices. We spent the bulk of our time at the Sushi pool, and we were often the only people there. They have cold drinks set out, as well as pretzels and peanuts. We did not use the other pools at Sian Ka’an. Side note, there is a cenote right by this pool. It is fenced off, but lit up at night. The beach at Akumal has a bay that was sargasso free and the infinity pool there was also great. I unfortunately woke up on our final morning with severe gastro issues (I had accidentally swallowed water from a cenote on an excursion the day before). Isobel at the main desk was kind enough to give us a late check out and offered to call a doctor. I was able to get medication from the lobby pharmacy, the man working there was also very helpful. This resolved itself in 24 hours (pro tip- plug your nose if you jump into a cenote lol) and with the help of the meds purchased we made it home uneventfully. We can not wait to return! The staff as well as the setting make this place truly special!

"A fun week in Sun"

8.0

May23-30. Went on the solo room special and was upgraded to a garden room with outdoor hot tub. The room was nice, clean and everything worked properly. Food was excellent all week. Buffet meals were fresh and delicious. Great service. I did 4 ala carte dinners all being a good experience. Front desk was great to deal with during check in, check out and after locking my card in the room. Attended the fire show at Sian kaan beach bar was fun entertaining evening with tapas and cocktails hosted by Carmen. Her special events well organized and a great value. The beach has some erosion and seaweed issues but they’re working hard to keep it clean and there was several spots suitable for swimming everyday. Sian kaan is 7-8 minute cart ride to the beach. I enjoyed the tours and the people I meet on them. Longest wait for a cart to show up was about 10minutes.

"Amazing Staff and resort"

10.0

Amazing experience. Upgraded to penthouse is worth it. Great service, amazing staff, clean, quiet, with a little old school fun. The staff made this trip. We loved the buffet, loved being able to go to all of the resorts, drinks amazing. For cons...our fault..going in May it is hot! Pools did not cool you off and the ocean was full of seaweed that stunk! My only complaints really for the resort. There was a large group for a wedding that came in at the end of our vacation that acted like arses but there was extra security immediately so I would say handled pretty well. We met great people and would do it all again ....just maybe in March!

"Great trip!"

8.0

We had a great time at Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an! Daniel at the front desk took very good care of us from check in to scheduling our dinners, even giving us a ride to our oceanside dinner on our last night! We very much enjoyed all of our food, between the buffets, snack bars, dinners, and room service, we tried and loved everything. For our anniverary dinner, they even brought us a little dessert with "happy anniversary" written out on the plate, which was super sweet. Our biggest disappointment was how early the pools closed, closing at 7pm during the summer months, which was before dark. The pool bars were very nice and they kept coming by to take our empty cups and give us more drinks. The Sian Ka'an hotel is the farthest from the other hotels on the property, which we were not anticipating, but they have consistent trams going to all of the places you could want to go on the property, so that helped! Overall, we had a very good time and wish we could have stayed longer!

"Lackluster, especially for the money and a "luxury" stay"

4.0

While the resort was decent, it felt more like work than vacation. Constantly checking an app in a hopes to make dinner reservations, to restaurants that are "booked" but half the tables are open. Constantly waiting on shuttles to go to the other part of the resorts to find activities, or restaurants. Spent most our time in the same 'walk up' restaurant, or buffets (with hard bread most the time) because it was all that was available. Add that to an "okay" looking room, with very limited TV channels, and a college course to be able to work the AC (either that or it barely worked) and hot cold water that seemed to do what it wanted. I'd look elsewhere unless they cut the price of the resort in half at the very least.
