"Significant Crime and Safety Concern"

2.0

While this is a wonderful property, it is not safe. We had cash stolen from our room. We would have put it in the safe, but it was not working and repeated requests to have it fixed were never answered. To make matters worse, security came in and, without our permission, started searching our room, including asking us to open our own wallets. In other words, they were insinuating that we we making a false report. Days later, they said they found no one entered our room because no key card was used. Keep in mind, housekeeping here routinely keep doors wide open in rooms while cleaning, or cleaning nearby rooms, often leaving them unoccupied with the door open. On our return we found out that the Canadian Government and U.S. State Department have issued travel advisories in this area due to crime. I will add that the resort itself is beautiful and quiet.

"3 star hotel at best !"

4.0

This is a 3 star hotel at best! I recently stayed over Christmas and New Year and was extremely disappointed with the experience. The room was in poor condition—old, with blinds falling off the walls, and generally tired in appearance although clean. There was very little hot water available for showers. Additionally, we were given two single beds instead of a double, and when we requested a change, we were told it was not possible. While the staff in the buffet restaurant were exceptional—some of the nicest people I have encountered—this level of service did not extend to other areas. In the other restaurants, staff were often rude and inattentive to the point it would take a long time to get a drink (sometimes welcome drinks were forgotten about all together), and service seemed to depend on the tips provided when it came to the bar. For example, I asked for a specific gin and tonic and was told it was unavailable. Moments later, my husband asked for the same drink while offering a tip, and he received it. Throughout the stay, we felt constantly pressured to purchase extras, such as experiences and alcohol such as wine and champagne, we went to the Japanese restaurant at this hotel and even though the welcome drink had Saki in it we were told if we wanted Saki it on its own we would have to purchase a bottle! The situation on New Year’s Eve was particularly shocking to me while in an "all inclusive" hotel, to have a decent view of the stage, guests were required to purchase a bottle of champagne (e.g., Moët) at a price of nearly 300 Canadian dollars. Those unwilling to pay were left with limited seating around the bar or placed in the car park near the smoking area where there were extra tables for the evening. As for the food, despite the wonderful buffet staff, the quality was poor—tepid at best and lacking flavor. We only ate there twice (excluding Christmas and New Year’s Eve), and on both occasions, my husband and I became ill afterward. I will leave it at that, as you can infer what I mean by “sick.” Overall, this was the first time I have left an all-inclusive resort having lost weight. It was not worth the money, and I can honestly say I will not be returning.

"I'll be coming back."

10.0

At first, i was quite anxious about my trip and how i would be able to make my mark around the sian kaan resort and the others. At first i tought it would be hard to make it to the beach. Then i arrived and OMG. I got impress by the vibe there. The people who work there, always smilling and friendly even if you're alone. I was treated so well. I wanted to get there to have good time and relax and the point that your in the forest was great. The room is very good. Sure it could use a little bit of renovation but it didn't bothered me much. The room cleaning service and the minibar was really good too. I would like to give a much appreciated shout out to the boys and girls who does the entertainment at the pool and the pool bar during the day. They sure like their job and you can feel it. They were awesome and so kind. I don't know how they can be so happy and friendly everyday (i can't be like that :p). I must say that i quite fell in love with the place and i will be coming back again and again for sure!

"Things Have Changed ........"

4.0

This is the 6th time we visited Bahia Principe Sian Ka an ( my 4th time in the last 2 years) and for the 1st time I have to say I was disappointed. Not sure I will be coming back any time soon. Standards have dropped considerably. Booking a la carte dinners have become a joke even if you're booking them ten days in advance through the app. It just shouldn't be this hard to book dinners. You can't offer unlimited a la carte dinners and then not have any available. The restaurants keep offering the same limited menus year after year. Many items repeating themselves from one restaurant to the next. The new restaurant, The Smoked , which I was really looking forward to turned out to be horrible. So much so that I cancelled the second reservation I had at this restaurant. The quality of the shows has gone down as well, instead of adding new shows to keep it interesting for the many repeat clients , they have actually cut shows. This gives being taken for grated . The place is starting to show it's age. The trollies that take you from Hotel to Hotel expel toxic fumes every time you take them with few exceptions. I'd rather not have to breathe in exhaust fumes. The My Bahia Principe program offers many advantages that it doesn't honor , like asking for a 2 hour late checkout and being refused even though the Hotel is obviously not full and operating at 65% capacity as per the entertainment staff. Last but not least was an incident that happened at one of the a la carte restaurants . When I go to the a la carte dinners I like to enjoy a bottle of wine. I usually order a bottle in 1000 pesos range. One night we were dining at Ku'uk and Gladys tells me as I was leaving that she would like me to try a certain Mexican wine the next night when I would be dining at Katok. She said that she would be a Katok the next night. I said fine we'll see tomorrow. The next night as soon as I sit down at my table the Somelier comes to our table with a bottle of wine and says this is the bottle Gladys would like you to try. So I asked before we open the bottle what is the price? Somelier says 1-5,1-6. Well which one is it, 1-5 or 1-6 I asked? He says ok 1-5 . Now all the prices on the wine list are in pesos so I assumed 1-5 meant one thousand five hundred. Apparently not. When dinner is done he comes over with the bill to sign. The bottle is now priced at 3000 Pesos. I point out that we had agreed to 1-5 , he says he meant 150 American . I refused to sign , I told him a 3000 pesos bottle of wine works out to almost $300 Canadian. There was nothing exceptional about this bottle of wine. It was infact the worst of all the bottles I drank during my vacation. So he leaves and I go to washroom while he sorts this out. While I was in the washroom Gladys comes to the table and has my wife sign. My wife assumed that it had been taken care of so she signed it. Dirty game they play. The next day I make a complaint at the customer experience desk. I explained to Isabel what had happened . I pointed out that even if it was 150 US that still doesn't work out to 3000 pesos. She assured me she would look into it. The next day she tells me that the next time I dined at Katok that I would have a free bottle of Josh on the house. Now a bottle ofJosh is priced at 800 pesos. that still doesn't make up the difference. They argued that that is the best they could do seeing as I had signed the bill. Dirty game they play. If that's how you value you're clientele , so be it. I will value you in turn. A special shout out to my brother from another mother Josh from the entertainment team , who was an amazing individual to deal with. Also a special thanks to Isabel at customer experience, just a delightful person to deal with.

"Absolutely disgusting for supposedly 5*"

2.0

My wife and I visited this hotel starting 24 November 2025 on the understanding that this hotel was a 5 Star Luxury adults only all inclusive hotel that TUI show on their advertising as their highest grade of 5T. What a joke!!! The reason is they are disgraceful!!. From being kept awake by the air con motor all night even when the air con is turned off to the cracked bathroom sink and sliding balcony door to urine stains in the seal round the bottom of the toilet and a lounge settee that wasn't fit for a charity shop!! This place needs closing down for a major refurb or the 5T grading needs to be changed to 1T at best and TUI need to stop advertising this hotel as the best quality in the 4 hotel group owned by Bahia Principe in Riviera Maya. After one night of no sleep we asked for a room change which we eventually got 2 nights later and after liaison with TUI in the UK and the payment of a further £500+ we moved to the Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal which TUI show as a lower grade of 4TPlus.......why were we required to pay extra to move to an allegedly lower grade hotel within the same group unless they know that the standards at the Sian Ka'an are not as good? This move however rescued our holiday because the difference was unbelievable. The Akumal was cleaner, brighter, larger, more pleasant an atmosphere and altogether better so why is this hotel a lower grade? The Bahia Principe opened a refurbished hotel on 1/12/25 called the Tequilla after an extended refurb and this is exactly what needs to be done with the Sian Ka'an. Our experience has been evidenced with photos that have been submitted to TUI but they have refused to comment on them as to whether they represent 5* or not and have refused to reimburse the additional costs we were required to pay in order to obtain the service we had paid for initially beyond a £200 cash or £300 voucher. Make your own mind up whether this is good customer service or not!!

"Restaurant bookings."

6.0

Unfortunately we are having to place this review before we have even started our holiday. We booked to arrive on December 31st, NYE, as a belated 30th wedding anniversary due to a family illness. We discovered that you could check in and make restaurant reservations via the Bahia app, but only 10 days prior to arrival. So, 10 days exactly in advance we accessed the app only to find that not 1 reservation time was available for any of the a la carte restaurants. We emailed the hotel to ask how this was possible, but simply received a reply to advise us they have made a reservation for the buffet restaurant, what a nice welcome on New Year's Eve...we are dreading to find what the rest of the holiday will be like after a welcome like this. We are writing this review beforehand to offer the management the chance to try and correct this for us, but having read some of the responses by management to other reviews, we are not very hopeful.

"Very good but, short of Excellent."

8.0

We have stayed at three other Bahia Principe luxury resorts. This is a very good luxury resort. The Mayan jungle setting is wonderful. The Service, Food & Beverage, Pools and Entertainment is at the usual Bahia Principe luxury standard. Where Sian Ka an falls short of an "Excellent" rating is in two places; 1) the Superior room is small and the room bathroom is even smaller & cramped, and, 2) the outdoor "jungle gym" is downright goofy for an ADULTS luxury resort.

"Loved our stay"

10.0

Loved our stay here. Very beautiful jungle feel. Great food/staff/rooms. Trolly ride to other hotels doesn’t feel annoying… more of a fun activity. The gym at Sian ka’an is just an outdoor area with some dumbbells and benches. It’s small but never busy and all you really need. Beach areas and bars in the adults only sections were wonderful. This was our second time here and we will be back again.

"Shout out!"

10.0

I have been to this resort more time then I can count. The resort is beautiful and has everything you could want. My husband and I keep coming back mostly because of the staff. I don't normally single out any staff in particular but I felt I must in this case. Santa and Santiago who for many years made the crepes and omelets in the SianKaan buffet. They always treated guests like family and made there food look like works of art. This trip I spoke with them and they now work inside, they would love to be back at the omelets station and I hope they will be on our next trip.
