"A gem of a place"

The inn has a long and fascinating history - it is possibly the oldest inn in England going back to the 1300s and witnessed trials by the notorious Judge Jefferies in the 1600s.It oozes history and atmosphere and yet now provides 21stC comforts .Room was very comfortable:good food in the restaurant:attentive/friendly staff...a real treat!

Inevitably for such an old historic building compromises have had to be made: the ensuite was a bit on the small side but totally adequate.But felt privileged to stay in a place with so much history and character attached to it.

. Excellent breakfast with lots of choice, as with evening meal. . Room clean, well presented and comfortable. . Staff very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. . Extraordinary historic inn full of character. Set in a lovely stone village with beautiful views.
