Royal Hotel Sheerness

Rooms were a good size, beds were comfy and the hotel was easy to find.

Lots of stairs and no lift, no parking facility. With a little more TLC the venue could be a little jewel.

Lovely staff, can't do enough for you. There was no light in the bathroom; however, they are refurbishing the rooms. Ours was spotless, comfortable bed. It's extremely reasonable and within walking distance from town.

This was the worst place I have ever stayed.

Upon getting to reception, it was closed with a note on the door. We called the numbers and were told to go to the pub. Upon entering, we were given a key, and the manager told us we had to pay a £20 dog fee. I gave him cash which he immediately put into his pocket - not into the till. We walked upstairs and tried to find our room, looking at all the doors. We couldn’t find a number 5, that’s because our room door was left wide open, for anyone to go in and do anything to the room. There was a black sack of rubbish on the floor outside our open door, and dirty linen left on the floor. We went into the room and I was immediately unhappy. There were no towels on the bed for us, no bath mat or hand towel in the bathroom. The bedroom floor was dirty, with splashes of coffee or some other drink on the floor. There were no bin bags in the bin. There was a CIGARETTE BUTT left on the bathroom floor which made it clear to us the floors were neither hoovered or mopped. The shower had not been cleaned, there was pubic hair and dirt on the toilet. There was either blood or faeces stains above the loo, as well as a smear of what looked like bogeys, and dried blood on the bathroom door. We emailed and messaged the hotel - no response. We contacted booking.com who contacted the hotel. At this point we were so disgusted, after driving almost 2hours to Sheerness we just wanted to go home. The room was vile, having spent £113 for two nights we expected it to be clean. The person who did the room should be fired if that is their standard. Booking.com spoke to the hotel manager, who came upstairs and agreed to give us a refund - this was overheard by the woman on the phone from booking.com. We packed up and left. Upon getting down the stairs, the manager was waiting for us sheepishly, he begged us not to leave a bad review, stating that this would reflect negatively on him and his cleaner.
