The Old Hall Inn

Staff are worked very hard and cope admirably, being helpful and polite. Breakfast was quite good and owner made sure we were seen to as quickly as possible, particularly after what had happened. Beautiful location, pub seems popular with the locals.

Worst experience we've ever had through booking.com which is usually brilliant. Couldn't sleep in the room at the Old Hall Inn because of the loud bar noise until 12.30am, owner extremely cold, unsympathetic and unhelpful, claimed that info about it being noisy was on all their publicity, even though he couldn't find it himself (It isn't there, the 'small print' just warns about the sister building, the Paper Mill experiencing 'some noise'-I have the screenshot proof). Comments like 'nobody else has complained' (they have, we've seen the reviews), and 'did you not know you were booking in a pub' made us feel it was somehow our fault for being disturbed! I know he's treated other people the same way when they share their concerns. I'd checked the info thoroughly before booking, especially as it was my husband's birthday weekend and I'd wanted it to be special. We tried to tell him that the room has to be fit for purpose for that amount of money and he interrupted and complained about having to pay commission to booking.com and all his taxes! No understanding, apology or sympathy and borderline aggressive--he even complained that we'd asked booking.com for help. Got a full refund in the end, but again had to get help from booking.com to get that! He claimed he hadn't received our bank details (we'd sent proof to booking.com before this lie to prove that these details had been sent!) and the refund came through the next day. Grateful for support from booking.com to help us stand up to this man's arrogance and lies. I hope that anybody else who tries to share concerns about their stay receive an understanding and apologetic response that was sadly lacking in our experience. We've never experienced anything as bad as this in all the pubs, hotels and B and B's we've stayed in, which have usually been excellent.

location was nice, beautiful building, surroundings and cosy pub. parking was easy.

More adaptions for guests - Limited choice; my daughter couldn't have anything as a vegan; and a note on the menu saying adaptations weren't possible. Not offered additional tea or coffee, and eggs were uncooked on both days, and mine had a shell in it. Also staying in main inn and were locked in with no sign to exit door (turned out we were meant to leave by the fire escape door) and then couldnt open it to get back in. Second morning a huge pile of logs blocked the exit! No staff around in the mornings to assist as the pub is closed.

The 4 post bed was amazing and worth the additional money. So comfy, like sleeping on a cloud. Gorgeous little inn, food is amazing too.

Room was lovely. Decor was great, the coffee machines, tv, heating was all great. The bed was very comfortable and the room. Breakfast was also amazing, perfect way to start the day.

Superb breakfast. Delicious dinner in the Paper Mill next door (pop-up Korean). Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere.

The property was stunning, exuding charm on all levels. Exposed stone walls, fires lit in every room, authentic wooden beams exposed, heavy wooden tables, all suggesting the age of the hotel.

The bedrooms were too hot at night.
