"Staff were super friendly "

10.0

We had a sweet older lady take us to our room. English wasn’t her first language but that was fine as she still managed to tell us everything we needed to know about the room. Reception were very nice and helpful. The public onsen was great and I really enjoyed soaking in the water. I went around 9:30-10pm on 2 separate nights and it was almost empty. I also tried the private onsen. I have no problem being naked in front of other people so the private onsen in my opinion wasn’t worth paying for. The public onsen is at no extra cost. I really enjoyed walking around the hotel wearing a Yakuta. The Japanese breakfast had a large variety and there was so much food I couldn’t eat it all, but it was still great. The futons in the room were very comfortable. Would recommend this hotel. It was my first time in japan and I’m so glad I booked a traditional room. It was a unique and memorial experience

"A Wonderful Ryokan with a Traditional Onsen"

10.0

It is a beautiful hotel to stay in on a ski trip to Ryuoo Ski resort. It is 5 mins away from the Station and Shuttle bus to the ski resort. The hotel staff there have been kind and wonderful. The breakfast was very good. There is not much restaurants around, so I would highly recommend ordering their dinner too. A truly fabulous hotel that we would like to visit again. Thank you for your hospitality.

"STUNNING hospitality and facilities!"

10.0

Amazing and caring staff that even provided us shoes when we went to see the Snow Monkeys, and prepare a vegetarian breakfast for us. Their onsen and public bath facilities on the fifth floor are stunning and have views of the Japanese alps. Don't miss out on this hotel, easily the best in the area and just a 5 min walk from the Yudanaka Dentensu/Bus station. NOTE: you WILL need to take the Dentetsu (electric train) from Nagano station to Yudanaka station to get to the hotel. The dentetsu is not covered by the JR pass and costs 1,260 yen each way, I suggest to save and buy the Snow Monkey pass at Nagano.

"Traditional hotel with excellent standard"

8.0

Its a japanese ryokan with japanese hospitality. The hotel has private onsen which was clean and has a good view of the surrounding. I really enjoy the onsen in which they have 1 indoor big pool, 2 small tubs and 1 medium size tub which i really like as it is outdoor and open air. At night you could see the moon and the clear sky. In the morning we could see the beautiful mountain far away. I would love to return.

"Lovely onsen"

10.0

Four of us visited and slept very comfortably on the futons. The breakfast was fabulous and very good value. The onsen were the highlight. Really great baths, although the first night they were too hot. Sitting in the morning sunshine enjoying a view of the city and surrounding mountains was fantastic.

"Simply Amazing! ほんとにすごいです!"

10.0

Hotel Tsubakino is one of the best accommodations I have stayed in that won’t empty a bank account. It also is a great choice while visiting the Snow Monkeys. It all starts from check-in, where you are taken into the dining room for tea while you fill out your check in documents. You are then personally taken to your room and given a tour of it if you have never stayed in a ryokan before. Everything is explained and the staff do speak enough english to have everything explained. The room (2 western style beds) was spacious, clean, comfortable and a great place to just relax. The view during winter was also amazing, with it overlooking the town. Just look at the pictures for this review. The selling point of this hotel, is the private open-air bath. It did not disappoint, you have to book upon check-in to secure your spot, and it is only 1-hour slots. But it’s great to experience a traditional outdoor onsen in private. If you’re ok with non-private baths then this may not be as big of a deal, but it was for me. The staff went above and beyond to help, explaining to us how to get to and from locations, and also recommending places to eat outside of the hotel, and even saw us off after checkout. If there was anything that they couldn’t convey in English, google translate was to the rescue. The location is close to the station, so it’s not too far of a walk once you arrive. We also had breakfast while at the hotel, the traditional Japanese option tasted good (not amazing quality but good) and was my first experience of a traditional breakfast. There is also a western style available, but while you’re in japan you might as well. I’ll say it again Hotel Tsubakino is one of the best accommodations I have stayed in, Great Staff, Great Rooms, Unique Bath, Good Food and a Good location. If you’re doing an overnight trip at the snow monkeys or somewhere else in the area, this is a perfect hotel.

"Very nice hotel with attentive staff."

10.0

From the start, the staff welcomed us with a drink. My son has food allergies. They were very accomodating by adjusting the daily menu. Room is nice and clean with own bathroom. The view of the five mountain peeks is excellent. Would definitely come back.
