"Highlight of our trip!"

10.0

Our experience at Hotel Tsubakino was top-notch from the time I booked through our stay! They answered any questions I had beforehand promptly via email. Once we booked our train, we told them our arrival time and they picked us up in their van from the train station (although they are so close to the train station you don't need them to pick you up but it is nice when there is snow on the ground). They warmly greeted us and served us tea upon arrival and we sorted out what time we wanted our kaiseki dinner and breakfast which we had booked prior to arrival. We also were given a choice of a Western style or traditional Japanese style breakfast. We absolutely loved the kaiseki dinner and the Japanese style breakfast!! There were so many courses that were all so delicious and carefully prepared; we were absolutely stuffed! We felt very pampered as the service was phenomenal and we served meals in our own private dining room! The private rooftop onsen is a wonderful addition--there are two tubs with views that overlook the town and mountains. They provide speakers and an aux cable so bring your music players! It was a lot of fun wearing the traditional yukatas and slippers to the onsen and meals. The room was very spacious and the traditional futon bed on the tatami was very comfortable. The kotatsu (heated table with blanket) was a cozy touch. It was a convenient location to visit the Jigokudani snow monkey park; we walked 2 min to the Yudanaka train station, then took a 10 min bus ride to the snow monkey park bus stop then walked half hour to the snow monkey park. All in all it was definitely the highlight of our Japan trip!

"Such a great experience!!"

10.0

My husband I stayed here one night during our 10 day stay in Japan. I wish we had stayed longer. The staff was wonderful and very attentive. We loved the traditional experience. We did the traditional Japanese breakfast, I highly recommend any of their add ons so you can get the whole experience. We also took advantage of the private onsen! I was 5.5 months pregnant and was a bit concerned about staying in the traditional room, but the staff made it up very nicely and it was honestly one of our most comfortable nights in Japan. Lastly, when we checked in we were given tea in the lounge and a private tea session our room to explain where everything was - wonderful!

"Enjoyed this place"

10.0

Located in a remote, quiet onsen town that has a beautiful view of the local mountains. Also, if you are planning on going to Jigokudani (Snow Monkey onsen park) it is relatively easy to get to. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Would go again if I was in the area!

"Spa with wonderful view of the mountains"

8.0

My daughter and I went to the hotel for my birthday as a special treat. We stayed two nights and really enjoyed the spa. It was very hot though, but very relaxing. It wasn't crowded at the hotel so we didn't have to share the spas much, but I could see them being small if there is a lot of people. We recommend going for the sunset over the mountains. Their English was helpful but far from fluent.

"Expensive but SO worth it"

10.0

We booked this hotel to experience a traditional ryokan and to celebrate the end of our three weeks in Japan. It was super expensive for our budget (we're backpackers), but SO worth it. The staff were wonderfully friendly, the rooms were spacious and beautifully designed in traditional style, and the breakfast they served (both western and traditional) were perfect. We also booked the private bath for 50 minutes (price of 2150 yen), and it was AMAZING. The only things I could complain about was the female only bath had slightly dirty water, but that could happen from people not understanding how to use the baths. We didn't get to see much of the local area, so we can't really comment on that. Tip: If you're not familiar with Japanese food and not up for being adventurous, maybe opt for a western style breakfast. I loved my traditional breakfast, but it had a bewildering array of flavors and textures. Last breakfast they can serve you is at 8:30 am.

"Nice hotel close to the station"

10.0

There was a wonderful stay, the japanes food is very good, and the publish baths has beautiful views, also for not too much money you can reserve a private onsen, with good amenities.
