Amphitryon Hotel

This property is NOT a five star hotel. At best maybe a 1 star. Clean but extremely dated and worn out. There’s no internet in the rooms, only the lobby area and a very small room they call the business centre. No parking although they claim there is. The location is great , but all else failed for me and therefore I would not stay here or recommend The staff are very nice and try their best to make you feel welcome but this hotel appears to have been deteriorating for many years.

Wonderful property overlooking the promenade and a great view of the water castle of Bourtzi. Shopping and Tavernas are plentiful and an easy walk. The staff were very friendly, and requests were responded to promptly. We were only there for 2 days/1 night but would have gladly stayed longer if time allowed. would definitely choose this property again on a return to Nafplio!

This is our 2nd time staying at this property overall very good. Has all the amenities, short walk to square and restaurants. Incredible water views. Staff are friendly and courteous and helpful. Would definitely recommend this property and we will be back.

The hotel is in the center of Nafplio, an old city. I arrived by car only to find that there was not only no parking, which I expected, but also no place to unload. The reception kindly suggested I park at the nearby sister hotel. My car navigation sent me off on a crazy route down pedestrianized streets. I gave up and parked at the nearest available public car park, 1 km away. The staff did not take kindly to my suggestion that valet parking might be a good idea. I returned to the hotel but left my wallet in the car. The non car parking concierge made very obvious hints that he expected a tip and had to be shooed out of the room. Things then got worse. The hotel hot water failed, as did the internet. The AC, which ideally should have an on/off button and a temperature control had a control panel fit for a Boeing 747, hidden below normal eye level behind a table - I had to lie on the floor with a flashlight in an effort to read the symbols. I called reception who came up and adjusted the temperature, but acted like it was my fault that I couldn’t figure it out when I suggested a simpler design might be appropriate. The room had smart lighting and blind controls, a nice touch, but none of the buttons were labeled. The concierge did try and explain them, but this is not something you can take in after a long drive and a hike from the car park. So I ended up pressing the buttons at random which rather negates the purpose. Other design eccentricities included a power outlet beside the bed that required you to move a heavy table to access. All this is a shame because the hotel is actually nicely appointed and the desk staff pleasant.

Other reviewers are correct saying that the hotel has seen better days. It definitely feels like a five star hotel from 1982, with some modest investments in upgrades in hardware and furnishings, the hotel could be flying high again. That said, we had a wonderful experience at the Amphitryon Hotel. The location is excellent, everything in Nafplio is walkable, staff are exceptionally professional and responsive, and then there is the million dollar view, which is unbeatable. We feel very lucky to have stayed at this hotel, despite or even because of its quirks. To confirm, there is wifi available in the lobby but not in the rooms. Depending on how much you need the internet, this may be a factor for your stay. For us, it felt like a welcome enforced break. And because it is worth noting, the elevator to the pool at its sister hotel on the cliff above, is a fascinating experience in its own right.
