Fantastic welcoming warm stay for an anniversary getaway sans kids. So helpful and friendly with fabulous food and cocktails, lovely rooms and grounds and just all round wonderfulness. Can’t fault it thank you so much.

A welcoming, tastefully presented hotel, with a spacious bedroom and comfortable bed. Staff were lovely and breakfast was delicious. It was ideally located for exploring South Kent.

Hotel needs modernising, I was given a room with a hole on the wall. The music at breakfast was depressing. My room was near the bar and all I heard was bottles being thrown into a bin

"3 star hotel experience"

4.0

The hotel is very dated, does not have air conditioning. The restaurant food choice is rather limited (although has vegan/vegetarian options). generally 3 stars at best. Very lovely and helpful staff, but that's the only highlight.

The room was comfortable, but the shower was pathetic. Floor boards above were noisy, but thankfully the guests were not up all night or early risers.

"Who gave 5* rating to this hotel?"

8.0

The hotel was smaller than I expected and was definitely not a 5* property. Overall we had a comfortable stay but the dissapointment over the misrating really rankled with me. We had booked a deluxe room but the room was just like a smallish standard twin. It was clean and comfortable but I've stayed in many 3* hotels for work with similar and sometimes better rooms. The shower was good the bed comfortable and the view over the garden pleasant and peaceful. Breakfast was excellent but the hotel was generally very ordinary. Definitely nowhere near 5*. The staff were nice enough but we were very dissapointed to arrive on Sunday to find the restaurant wasnt open in the evening and we couldnt get any food so had to go out to Hastings to eat as there was nowhere open in Battle. The hotel's own literature, given out at reception states that food can be provided to eat in the lounge when the restaurant is shut on Sundays. This wasn't true plus when I enquired about ordering a take out to be delivered I was told the bar and restaurant were being closed up at 8.00 In the end we ate out the second night as well to avoid the risk of being the only people in the tiny dining room. The "lounge" which we had thought would be a comfortable room for relaxing in was an unstaffed bar with about six tables and hard chairs in. TBH I wouldnt have minded any of this much if the hotel was honest about what it is - A 3* hotel. It almost spoilt our 35th wedding anniversary break.

"Classic Hotel"

8.0

Hotel was very clean; bed comfortable with good quality bedding. I had a small double room which didn't get much sun and so was on the cool side. Bathroom was small but adequate but the shower had poor water pressure. Breakfast was excellent; very good quality.
