Holiday Inn Express and Suites Urbandale Des Moines by IHG

Went to visit our daughter and her family and booked a room in Des moines. We don't typically stay at the same place every time but from now on, we will. This Holiday inn is very nice and we found zero things we would improve on. From the check in, til checkout everything was perfect. Our room was very comfortable and spotless. We didn't use the pool but it was a popular place for some of the other guests. The free breakfast is the usual stuff and although it was very busy, everything was well stocked and very good. To top it off its in an easy to get to location, there are several restaurants nearby, and the staff is extremely friendly. From now on, this is our place when we visit des moines.

The swimming pool water is not very warm for an indoor swimming pool. The hot tub was warm which is great. However, the hot tub had way too many chemicals. It was burning our eyes.

The cinnamon rolls were a hit. I even heard others make that comment. I had pancakes and cereal because I am very basic. But their was oatmeal, yogurt, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy to choose from.

Honestly I didnt really have a complaint. It was one of the best places I have stayed at. I did not use the pool facilities so can’t talk on that.

The location is near where we needed to be for the weekend.

This room was disgusting. The bathroom reeked like an ashtray and if we left the door open the whole room smelled like it. We were staying with our young kids and had to wash all of their belongings when we got home because they stunk like a bar. The hotel staff was unresponsive and told us it was a know issue. They also offered to "spray" to mask the smell but that was the best they could do.

My husband & I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Urbandale Iowa at the end of March 2026. The hotel is wonderfully clean and tastefully decorated with modern décor in both the lobby & hotel room. A roomy, well appointed entrance to the room has hooks for coats, a shelf for keys and full length mirror. Crisp white bedding gives a spa vibe along with a squeaky clean washroom supplied with name brand toiletries. Our room was extremely comfortable and clean. The breakfast is included (eggs, bacon, potatoes, pancakes) but the warm cinnamon rolls and coffee with each cup brewed from fresh ground beans was wonderful. Both are delicious. Both evening and morning staff were super friendly ensuring our stay was comfortable & that we had everything we needed. This hotel gets all the stars and more. I can’t stress enough how clean and comfortable our stay was. Highly recommend.

Decent breakfast and helpful staff. Room was very nice. The hot tub was nice to have in the pool area.

The pool was freezing. Outside of pool was extremely slippery, but my grandkids still had a great time.
