Great location, lovely old Queenslander. Backpacker-style shared kitchen. Lovely people employed for cleaning and other chores. Negatives: no air-conditioning in rooms, which makes it unbearably hot and difficult to sleep at night. Bathroom in urgent need of complete renovation. No cleaning was done in my room during my 2 weeks stay.

Bowen Terrace is truly a hidden gem with convenient access to Brisbane CBD, Queen Street Mall, and South Bank Parkland via bus or walking along the riverfront. The managers, Ann and Brenda, were so lovely, helpful, and hospitable. This place had more of a bed and breakfast feel to it; there were always friendly and familiar faces without the noise or the party crowds typical of hostels, and it provided the perfect balance of privacy and socializing with other travelers. Both private and shared spaces were SPOTLESS, and cleaning was done on a daily basis. I enjoyed my stay here so much that I extended from one week to two and will definitely return if I need another night's stay in Brisbane.

A very quaint hotel with character. It is clean and has all you need to make your stay as smooth as possible. The staff are very friendly and helpful and are there to make your stay enjoyable. I would recommend this hotel 10 out of 10.

We had a great time staying here whilst visiting our daughter in the city.here. We usually stay in the city at a bland budget hotel because it has free car parking. Our daughter was a bit concerned and thought we might be squashed in with backpackers and less friendly short stay room frequenters. We had an amazing time. Not only was our room character filled and the staff friendly, there was plenty of free on street parking. We walked, scooterd and ubered our way around the city easily. The house had hostel rooms downstairs, but we didn't see or hear anybody other than a family on our floor. The private bathroom was small but spotless. It's an easy walk to the river, New Farm shops, the movies and New Farm Park. The only noise came from the street outside, which wasn't much as it is in a residential area. We might not have heard anything, but we kept the window open as it was a hot night. No aircon, but we were fine with the open window and overhead fan. A nice character century old home away from home. Definitely our new first choice. We also saved $40 a night on what we usually pay.

Great location in New Farm, not too far from ferry and the Powerhouse

I really liked staying here. I was only going to stay 1 night but extended it to 3. It’s affordable, comfortable, got a nice, friendly atmosphere and is close to everything you need. I would definitely stay here again.

My sister and i stayed overnight between events at The Powerhouse and in Teneriffe. We love the charm of the place, with so many different sitting areas to hang out in, a good kitchen, decks and a pool. Helpful and friendly staff too.Would like to stay longer next time.

Finding an affordable private room for a solo traveller in Australia's main cities is like looking for the needle in the haystack - but I did find the needle, in the shape of Bowen Terrace Accommodation. This place is a hostel/guesthouse hybrid so the guests encountered here may be anything from solo backpackers up to elderly couples looking for an inexpensive getaway. I found this refreshing and certainly not a negative; if you, like me, prefer a cosy, homely atmosphere without action at times. The upmarket New Farm suburb Bowen Terrace Accommodation is located in isn't quite the neighbourhood I would normally roam in, however I found it ideal for my stay because it's quiet and safe, and the CBD/Fortitude Valley are close by. I took a CityCycle almost every day, there's a station less than five minutes walking away, near the main street - recommended, you can connect your GoCard to it and hire a bike within a minute. Even without a bike, a Coles supermarket, post office and myriads of other shops are about 10 - 15 minutes walk away. My room was spotless, the bed very comfortable, and there was a closet as well as a small table (with water kettle if I remember correctly). The common bathrooms are equally spotless, so is the kitchen. The latter has all the equipment you could possibly need, and the adjacent lounge (with couch, books, dining table and sofa) is comfortable and inviting; there are movies, books and some games available. Furthermore there are two outdoor seating areas and a pool which would be especially nice in Summer. The lady owner checked me in professionally, showed me everything and provided me with a map and tips for the area. In the following days two French girls were running the place, who would always help if asked, but were quiet otherwise. All in all a very decent place and especially good value for money in expensive Australia. I would not hesitate to return!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Bowen Terrace for several weeks whilst working in the city. Ann was always lovely to speak to and really helpful with all our requests and queries and nothing was ever too much trouble. The Kitchen is fully equipped, always clean and tidy, with fridge and freezer space (aswel as a fridge/kettle in your room) If you’re looking for somewhere homely and chilled to stay in then Bowen terrace is the place for you.
