Stayed 1 night, great location, lovely room. Friendly and helpful staff. Fantastic beer garden at rear of property. Parking was a bonus as this can be hectic in middle of Helmsley Would stay again.

Loved the location and the free carpark . Staff were extremely friendly and chatty especially the guy who was serving us the drinks and collecting glasses , didn't catch his name unfortunately . The beer garden was beautiful there was a pergola so you could sit in the shade . The garden had plenty of tables and chairs and was very spacious. We arrived early and our room was ready so we checked in and enjoy a glass of wine in the beer garden before we looked round Helmsley.

FOOD Evening meal : When we entered the restaurant we were shown to our table I noticed that they were seven tables all ready sitting out of which six were eating they meals . They was definitely a lack of staff as we waited over 15mins before a server came over . It was a basic pub menu which was acceptable, however, the two meals we ordered were not of a high standard. The frozen chips were very dry and hard ( not crispy) my side salad was swimming in dressing, the chicken kiev was dry inside no butter . When asked if everything was ok whilst we were eating I mentioned about the salad I was offered a fresh salad but I had almost finished my meal so I refused . I didn't have the chance to mention anything else as he had walked away . I don't believe that this is a regular occurrence because earlier whilst my parnter was at the bar ordering our drinks he heard the barmaid saying to a customer that 'the kitchen staff are under a lot of stress ' when they asked if they could order some food . They was definitely a staff shortage in the restaurant side , as a kitchen staff even came out to serve food to a table near us . They was no staff overlooking the tables in the restaurant whilst we were dinning. We left before our plates were cleared and I paid for the meal at the bar . The breakfast : Continental offered a good selection of food choices. Coffee and orange juice were excellent. The Full English breakfast was a disappointment though . The bacon was of poor quality and very thin yet the sausage was off a high standard. The food was warm and even the beans that came in a separate pot were just the say warm . The mushrooms were also dry and warm . Even though they were two items which I didn't want on my breakfast I was disappointed that I wasn't asked if I would like an extra egg or bacon in place as a substitute.

Helmsley is a fantastic little town and the Black Swan ideally placed. The room was ok and on the ground floor to accommodate our dog and myself as I've just had an operation. The new manager was helpful and courteous.

I was charged twice for my one night stay, once at the property on arrival and then 4 days later an additional payment was taken from my account. This was refunded 2 days later. The breakfast room staff made an excuse that we should sit somewhere else if the table we were sat at wasn't cleaned off. We were sitting in a place that was ideal for our dog. The rest of the tables were still full of used pots from previous guests! I didn't think the waiting staff were attentive enough!

Location was perfect within the beautiful town square.

I travelled with brother, booked for a twin room. On arrival was shocked to have double bed angry. Staff to slow to change beds

I liked everything,the hotel and the staff were very helpful n welcoming.

The bar could have stayed open for residents a little longer.

It was a large well decorated pub, food was very good & the staff were friendly & polite.

Our 1st floor room(20) was over the beer garden & loud music played all day. It was rather warm in the room, & it meant opening the window, which wasn't easy, so had to use the fan supplied.
