The Tontine Hotel

This hotel is right in the centre of town, perfectly placed for everything you could possibly need. This weekend was exceptionally busy as the Beltane Festival (an ancient Gaelic festival) was coming to a close, so the atmosphere was fabulous. I always book the same room, as it works perfectly for me. I travel alone and a small doublt with en-suite is exactly what I need, btw it overlooks the river Tweed, room 10 is just right as there is no street noise. Value for money, well nothing is any more but I love Peebles and have family close by, so I will be returning again and again. Service at the hotel is pretty good and there is a bar, bistro and dining room. The rooms are cleaned every day.

We used the Tontine for a private party for 15 people — pre-dinner drinks in the beautiful lounge followed by dinner in the stunning Adam Room — and it was simply a brilliant night from start to finish. The hotel itself is gorgeous. The lounge, with its velvet armchairs, parquet floors and beautiful interiors, set the perfect tone for the evening, and The Adam Room is a truly special dining space — high ceilings, arched windows, chandeliers. It has real character and made the occasion feel properly special. But what really made the night was the staff. Laura handled all the planning beforehand and was an absolute pleasure to deal with — clear, helpful, proactive communication throughout, and nothing was ever too much trouble. On the night itself, Joe managed everything brilliantly, supported by Ava and the rest of the team. They were warm, professional, attentive and genuinely seemed to want everyone to have a wonderful time. They absolutely delivered on that. Food and drinks were excellent throughout. We couldn't have asked for more. If you're planning a private event in Peebles, look no further. The Tontine is a gem of a venue run by a genuinely exceptional team. Highly recommended.

Excellent service, friendly staff

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. It was close to amenities and restaurants in the High Street. Given its location it was quiet and we slept well. We had an issue with the shower in our room, which was rectified immediately which meant we had a great shower in a lovely bathroom. The rooms were clean, spacious with really comfortable beds. Breakfast was great for my partner, but as a vegan I found the options limited to oats (which was tasty). There was vegan milk so I could have my morning cup of tea. We took bikes and the bike lock-up seemed to be very secure. The staff were generally helpful. The lady I booked with was really friendly and Joe the duty manager was absolutely brilliant: attentive, efficient, friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The only issue was that on arrival: the room was booked in my name and I paid, yet the man who booked us in handed the key to my partner and gave him relevant information, despite my holding my hand out for the key, only really responding to me when I needed to sign the check- in paperwork. I'm unsure if this was because I am female or not but I did feel a little irritated by it. The bonus was we could use the pool/sauna in the Bryony Castle Hotel 10 minutes away. We plan to visit the area again soon and will stay at this hotel. I recommend it.

We stay annually for The Beltane Festival and this year was as lovely as always. Good to see the wonderful Laura on reception, still a total credit to The Tontine. The hotel exudes tradition and is in the centre of all the action for the festival week. Great food too!

Only one complaint- the shower (we always stay in room 18, great for a family of 3). It needs a total replacement as it really isn't fit for purpose. It 'trickles' and is almost unusable.
