10.0

If your planning on staying in Peebles don’t look any further then Tontine hotel… it just has everything you need and more … Lorna the receptionist is a joy to talk to she really makes every effort to help you … very dog friendly even supplies towels when you return from your walk along the river … Breakfast was just so easy everything to hand and the staff are there to help nothing seems to be a trouble …

Loved that I could bring along my four legged baby.. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful.

For us girls a mirror next to a socket is very important. My room did not have this. The mirror was on the back of the wardrobe door.

"Annexe Rooms Far Too Noisy"

6.0

Lovely location central to Peebles. Staff are welcoming (if needing a bit of training in the bar). We requested a room with a bath which was overall very clean and more than adequate. There was a dead bug on the floor and the fittings around the shower over bath need a proper clean ALL the way around - from the bath you can see all the dirt collected at the bottom of the pull rail, on the shower hose etc. The bath itself was clean and a great size, slow to drain though. Sadly our room was in the annexe which is basically a big squeaky shed. We were allowed an early check in which was great for my friend in recovery from serious illness ... until other guests checked in. The room was INCREDIBLY noisy, a couple argued for a good hour upstairs, anybody walking around sounded like a herd of elephants trampling above our heads or outside the room. We were at the end of a corridor and the doors bang heavily due fire regulations etc. To top it off a van parked RIGHT outside our window and remained there for the entire stay! It wasn't exactly a view, but having a van a foot off the window was not good either. We had a problem with the TV and the phone in the room didn't work, someone came immediately to sort out the TV (user error, not the fault of the hotel) but the phone was kaput and they noted it for maintainence. The gentleman who came to sort the TV was lovely, very friendly and also suggested places to eat that are dog friendly around town, as I had my dog with us. 5 stars for this! Breakfast was very well flavoured but my English Muffin for my eggs royale had been toasted in some sort of sandwich press and was harder than Thatchers helmet and compressed like a biscuit. Overall I would only visit again if given the assurance that we would not be in the annexe, it is not fit for purpose. A few lessons in etiquette and hygiene wouldn't go amiss for the boys behind the bar, too.
