This might be too long for most people so I am using categories so you can just jump to the one that most interests you. I went from Dec 17, 2025 to Dec 26, 2025 with my husband.
Location:
First let me tell you a little bit of our history on the Mexican beaches. We first drove to Mexico from Bragg Creek Alberta in 1992. Maybe too young at that time to think if it was safe or unsafe, it does not matter now because all went very well. In all the beaches including the Baja, it is Huatulco we enjoyed the most. This beach at the Secrets Huatulco is beautiful, calm waves, snorkeling at the left far end by the rocks (please, if you can go snorkeling at high tide it is easier), very quiet, only a few venders and they are not at all forceful, You can take a very short walk pretty much where you would start snorkeling from through the trees to another beach, worth a look.
Atmosphere:
This hotel has a quieter vibe but still has lots of bands to listen to at night and shows you can see, I did not do a lot of the shows, but I think you can keep busy at night if you choose to. It’s very relaxing like most hotels in Mexico but probably more so do to the fact that it is adult only.
Rooms:
The rooms are your typical rooms in resorts, good size unless you what to stay in your room all day, great cleaning staff, fridge got stocked every day, everything in the room worked fine. Yes, they probably need upgrading but this did not bother us any. Every room has an ocean view.
Value:
I do not think we got a great price, but we booked 6 days before going and did not shop around much so this is mostly our fault, but we loved the food, service, amenities, location so we felt it was good value.
Cleanliness:
Our room was cleaned very well every day; pool could have used and little scrubbing where the water’s edge meets the air at water level but really nothing to be concerned about. Yes, tiles are coming off in places but again this hotel needs a little updating, I can’t wait to see what they will do in the next little while with upgrades.
Noise Level:
I think we were in the closest room to the Sky Bar, this is where they have some bands with dancing, but it did not bother us at all, noise stopped around midnight. We like to sleep with the patio doors open because the sound of the waves was wonderful. If we wanted it quieter, we would close the doors.
Service:
OK, this is where this hotel shines! We enjoyed the Mexican Tamarindo”, the French “Bordeaux”, the Asian “Spice”, seafood “Oceana” you can sit outside which was great.
All service was great at these restaurants but the one we kept going back to was Castaways!!!, it is open aired with the best views of the beach and great service, we went every day for breakfast (preferred Club only for breakfast)
and lunch, I really got to know the staff at Castaways and by the time I left I felt a little like family. The manager of Castaways is Ivonne (she would come around asking everyone if all is fine) she is so friendly, Stefany is the hostess and wonderful to get to know as well, Hiedi is one of the severs and she introduced me to the most wonderful drinks, Gabriela (Gabi) now this is a great person and I wanted to take her home with me. Ruben, Abimael, Eddi, Adilene, Monica and Sergio were great servers as well, we also got to know young Rodrigo (also a server) he was wonderful to practice my Spanish with. On the last day I got to meet the Cheff: Gabriel, he spiced up my pasta with calamari, and it was fantastic, thanks Gabriel!
Amenities:
I cannot think of anything the hotel was missing, there were plenty of water sports that you can just take out into the ocean, I did not go kayaking because I just had a shoulder replacement 10 weeks ago but I was able to do the water aerobics almost every day, the instructors really make it fun.
We will be back,
Linda and Lloyd from Bragg Creek, Alberta
