Secrets Huatulco Resort & Spa

If you are looking for luxury, this is not your resort. While its decor is outdated, it is clean. However the lack of poolside loungers and umbrellas leaves a version of the hunger games starting at sunrise. Be prepared to getup by 6am to secure your loungers, however if you leave your stuff unattended, you may come back to nothing at all or your umbrella stolen by someone else. Food and drinks were decent, lines form at 6pm for dinner, and if you miss that place setting you will be waiting till 8pm to get a table, which may be fine for those that don’t mind eating later. Beach was beautiful, but honestly besides it being adults only, I would give it 3.5 stars. Definitely not the “higher-end” experience I was expecting from a Secrets brand.

Beautiful location in a great part of Mexico ! Offering some of the Secrets extras in a resort that is showing its age, but service & cleanliness are kept up. Beach is quiet and very accessible while away from the 'party' pool area. All poolside & beach lounge chairs fill up early. Great adults only Mexico beachside resort

Just returned from our second 2 week visit at Secrets Huatulco, and already planning on our next visit. Yes this resort is in need of a refresh, but if you watch they are working every day at doing this. They were changing out some of the tiles in the pools this week as well as repairing the pizza oven. Some of the rooms in building 5 & 6 have been updated as well. For those who think this resort is over priced I’ll remind you that this is the lowest priced Secrets they have, and once a refresh is completed the price will reflect that. We are UVC members so put check in was done in the UVC lounge. Our rep Regina was wonderful. We helped us get a room in the location we requested, and booked our Hibachi meal. She checked in with us every day, even on her days off. We found the food ranged from good to excellent. I had an issue with a meal not being hot and it was quickly replaced when I pointed it out to the server. If something is not right, let them know. Don’t come here and complain after the fact, if you do nothing at the moment. One evening I requested a variation a menu item. They custom made my meal as requested without complaint. We did not use room service during our visit. They are trying to limit the towel game. While there they started only allowing 2 towels per room, and you had to sign for them in the morning. I also witnessed the attendant taking photos of saved loungers and returning to remove the items. Will it help? Who knows but at least they are aware and are trying to fix things. People being people, I doubt anything will work. You sign an agreement at check in that you won’t participate in the saving of chairs but it still happens. They could have double the number of loungers and palapas and people would still hog more than 1 per person. We are beach people and never had trouble finding a chair at the beach. But I’m an early riser, and stay at the beach, only leaving for breakfast, lunch or a walk. It was a nice touch yo be able to get a coffee from an urn at the Barefoot grill early mornings. The views from the rooms is stunning. The rooms are dates, but they are clean and the beds comfortable with good linens. We love the red light instead of trying to put out a do not disturb sign. Our room was cleaned every morning, and we received turndown service in the evening. The shower was a lovely rain head, and there was never an issue with water pressure or temperature. We did not use the Jacuzzi tub in the room. There are few beach vendors, those that are there are not pushy, a no gracias and they move off. We were disturbed tho that some of the ones that sell fishing or boat tours were sitting / lying on the loungers in the shade. We thought there were fewer options for evening entertainment in the Sky Bar compared to last year. One evening was supposed to be a sax player, but it was a DJ. Spa. We treated ourselves to a couples massage and the hydrotherapy circuit. The spa is not owned by Secrets or Hyatt but will include this here, we enjoyed the treatments but after the hydrotherapy circuits we were told that our massaged would be in 7 minutes. After 35 minutes I went and asked what was happening and he tried to tell me that we were not booked until 4. I told him no, it was for 3. Suddenly 2 ladies appeared to take us. No apology for apparently forgetting about us. Overall impressions. Having stayed at Riu’s, Bahia Principe, and Decamerons, we find that Secrets Huatulco is a good value for our dollar, the level of service is higher and the food was better.

Great location. Huatulco is a wonderful vacation location. The Secrets resort is hospitable and clean. They don't knock your socks off, but it was a very lovely experience.

In 2019 we went for our anniversary and we have bragged about the service, food and resort for years! Yes, Secret resort is higher price point but it was worth it! Since 2019 we have gone back to Mexico and tried other beautiful resorts but nothing compared to Secrets, but again, we didn’t stay or pay for for Secrets level resort so we didn’t expect the same service or quality we had in 2019. When friends asked us if we wanted to go back we agreed to spend extra money because we knew it was worth it but we were sadly disappointed. Hotel is tired looking, missing, broken or stained tiles throughout hotel and pool. Furniture worn and stained. Rooms same. Food average. Had best meal off resort in town at local small restaurants. Nothing met 5 star Secret standards They didn’t even have Corona or Modelo beer! If I had paid for an average resort I would be happy but when I booked a Secrets vacation which are generally considered to be 5- star luxury, I was disappointed. The location, weather and beaches are amazing but you could easily stay at another less expensive resort and have same experience. We LOVE Huatulco and will return but this resort is definitely not worth the extra money you pay.

Our trip to Secrets Huatulco was absolutely amazing and truly flawless from start to finish. From the moment we landed in Huatulco, everything ran smoothly. The pickup with Amstar DMC at the airport was quick and efficient—we waited maybe 10 minutes before being on our way to the resort. Once we arrived at Secrets Huatulco Resort & Spa, the incredible service immediately stood out. The staff waited on us hand and foot throughout our entire stay. Every single person we encountered was kind, attentive, and genuinely helpful. The check-in process was the fastest we’ve ever experienced at a resort—about five minutes, and we were already heading to our room. The rooms are beautiful, and the housekeeping team truly goes above and beyond. From keeping everything spotless to restocking towels and turning down the beds each night, they made the stay feel extra special and comfortable. The pools are fantastic—very clean, large, and extremely well maintained. There was always plenty of space to relax and enjoy the sunshine. Another highlight was the variety of restaurants. The resort offers French, Mexican, Italian, a steakhouse, and Asian cuisine. We were able to try all of them except the Asian restaurant, and every one we visited was delicious with lots of options to choose from. The only small and very respectful complaint would be the entertainment. Compared to some other resorts we’ve visited, the nightly entertainment was a bit more limited—mostly live bands and karaoke. Both were fun and enjoyable, but we’ve seen other resorts offer things like silent discos, larger shows, themed nights (like a Michael Jackson tribute), etc. That said, this is a minor note and it did not take away from our experience at all. That being said, we did take advantage of the spa, and it was absolutely money well spent! The experience lasted about three hours and was incredibly relaxing and enjoyable. The staff took such great care of us, and the beautiful scenery made it even more special. They also offer daily specials, so if you’re planning to visit, I highly recommend stopping by the spa and booking with the lovely ladies there—you definitely won’t be disappointed! We also want to give a huge shout-out to some incredible staff members who made our stay even more memorable: Carlos from the Marlin Bar, and Carlos, Kenia, and Mario from the Market Café. They were some of the most humble, gracious, and kind people we’ve ever met. Truly wonderful humans. Honestly, the entire staff was amazing, but we had the chance to get to know them a little better and they made a lasting impression. Overall, this trip to Secrets Huatulco Resort & Spa was unforgettable. The service, cleanliness, food, and beautiful setting made it an incredible vacation. We would absolutely return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Huatulco.

this is a 2.5 start hotel with 5 star service the pool and other parts of the hotel and showing a lot of ware and need some attention but the servers make up for it. the facility has so much potential just needs to take care of a few details that really stand out. ie. The glass in the elevator shaft and the pool tiles, and a lot on uneven sidewalks and tiles around the hotel. garbage on the beach side of the green space. I can imagine you cant shut down the pools due to how busy it is but eventually it will have to be done.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Secrets Huatulco Resort. The beach is beautiful . The resort needs an upgrade, it looks old and outdated. But the staff, even though most struggle with the english language are very friendly and customer driven. For those with mobility problems, there are lot of stairs and steep slopes. I loved the aqua fitness classes, they were well attended. The entertainment team kept us entertained during the day, with varied activities. There is an issue with the towels on the lounge chairs. The staff take photos and will remove the towels if unattended for over 30 minutes . The food was good, but it did not compare to other Secrets . As with the lobby and rooms, the restaurants need an upgrade . Compared to other Secrets, the atmosphere was a bit dull and understated. Our favourite was Spice . We actually went three times, our waitress Cristina was very attentive. We had a relaxing time, putting the somewhat negative comments aside, the staff and beach made our trip an enjoyable one, and will mostly likely return.

Had a really good time. The food was really good. Lots of stairs. Nice place to relax and soak up the sun. Staff there were very attentive.

The food and team at the Castaways was muy bueno! Stefany and Rubén were amazing!
