Barefoot Addo Elephant Lodge

Das Personal war absolut phantastisch- sie haben alles möglich gemacht, was weit über das Angebot hinaus ging! Es gab sogar einen Geburtstagskuchen...sehr liebevoll, freundlich zu jeder Zeit! Obwohl die Lodge bzgl Straßenanbindung etc nicht ganz einfach zu erreichen ist, gab es dennoch jeden Komfort! Man benötigt nicht zwingend einen SUV um dort hinzugelangen..ein vernünftiger Motor und ggf. etwas höher gelegt reicht aus... Der Buschwalk ist hervorragend- Der Guide war absolut spitze und hat sehr viel erklärt und sich überdurchschnittlich viel Zeit genommen! Wir haben morgens gefragt ob man vllt Grillen könnte und es gab abends ein wunderbares Brai in der Lodge....es gibt dort einige Schlangen und andere Tiere- allerdings kein Grund zur Besorgnis, solange man nicht alleine im Busch herumläuft passiert nichts- das Personal ist gut ausgebildet! Man muss nur aufpassen wo man hintritt ;)

Die Aussicht war schön. Staff sehr hilfsbereit und höflich. Zimmer haben alles was man benötigt.

Da es sich um eine Familien Lodge handelt, ist für Paare Ruhe schwer zu finden. Die Anreise ist sehr beschwerlich.

Heerlijk verblijf maar de weg naar lodge is een uitdaging

Der Aufenthalt in der Unterkunft war perfekt. Das Personal war so freundlich und das Essen war wirklich super! Die Zimmer sind wirklich geräumig und sehr schön eingerichtet, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt! Auch die gesamte Anlage ist sehr durchdacht und man kann auch dort schon viel erleben. Am besten haben uns aber die beiden Tage mit Kendra auf der Safari im Addo gefallen. Sie hat das unglaublich toll gemacht und es war jeden Cent wert! Es lohnt sich sie besser kennenzulernen, eine unfassbar tolle und interessante junge Frau!

Fantastische locatie, prachtige luxe tenten met vaste badkamer en groot terras met douche, bad en alle privacy. Vanaf het terras kan je de Olifanten en Giraffes zien lopen. Het avontuur begint al met de weg erheen, super leuke ervaring. En de excursie walking met de Elephants is echt een aanrader!

Dat we weer weg moesten...

We booked Barefoot Addo Elephant Lodge based on the photos online, but unfortunately the real-life experience didn’t match expectations. It felt quite misleading compared to what is shown — overall the stay was medium at best.

We stayed in a “Superior Suite”, but it was essentially a converted tent with newer furniture. The room was not very clean and clearly needs renovation. There was also no air conditioning, and we had to walk quite far to reach our suite. That said, the balcony area was nice, and having an outdoor shower as well as a bathtub was a great touch. The lodge does have wild animals on the property, including elephants and giraffes, which sounds amazing. However, it didn’t feel fully natural to us, as we were told the elephants are fed and locked in every night, which took away from the authentic wildlife experience. The location is another big downside. The road to the lodge is around 30 km of rough gravel/off-road driving, which we wouldn’t recommend with your own car. We arranged a transfer through the lodge, which was convenient, but very expensive. On top of that, the Addo Elephant Park entrance is about 1.5 hours away, making it inconvenient if you’re staying here mainly for park visits. Food was average and not very tasty. Drinks are not included and are overpriced. The pool was also not usable during our stay, as it was completely green. The staff are friendly and sweet, but not proactive — we had to ask for everything (seat pillows outside, lighting the fire, etc.), which doesn’t feel like hospitality at this level. Overall, this lodge might work if you keep expectations low, but for us it was disappointing considering the price we paid and we wouldn’t return.

The service was spectacular as was the main house and food.
