Location: A truly beautiful hotel in the heart of the Cotswalds in Moreton in Marsh. Easier to get around in this town than many of them, and very close to all the pretty towns you want to see. This Hotel has a carpark, which I was very pleased for, since it was a busy, hot summer weekend. Unfortunately, the carpark is waaaaay out the back of the property, so pull up, unpack, and THEN go and park the car. A bit of a rigmarole but worth the trouble.
Check in: was easy and quick.
The building is a historical, and VERY rambling old place. I got lost on multiple occasion, a real maze.
Room: was a lovely Deluxe Double room, and it really was a lovely room, but from the get go we had trouble.
First, it was VERY hot weather. It had been a hot weekend, and was still very warm. The room had few windows to open, one in the bathroom, and a couple in the main room, but they faced the sun, so ... and no air conditioning. It was stifling.
There was one fan provided, which, to be fair, was strong, but we had to have it on all night, as you could not have windows open due to the noise.
Making it worse, the bathroom had a towel heater, which was on full blast, and you could NOT turn it off. There was simply no switch. It got hotter and hotter in that room, and was stifling when the windows had to be closed in the evening.
Second, there was a whining hum through the wall. some sort of machinery, humming, like fans or extractors. It was loud enough to keep my husband awake all night. Lucky I brought ear plugs. He never thought he'd need them in an upmarket place, in an upmarket room.
The next day we mentioned it to reception, who...said 'I've never had anyone complain about that before', and 'that's the room we put our brides and grooms in', and 'it's one of the best room's, - all the reasons why we shouldn't e saying anything.....but not "I'm so sorry, I'll look into it right away.' She also said s;he couldn't think what that was, and that there was nothing in the room next to us. I tried to say there wasn't a room next to us, but a storage area. She did look into it, and found that there was extraction fans.... then it became 'we HAVE to keep them on', 'we couldn't possibly turn them off'. Again, all the reasons why they're right. But the fact is, we'd paid a lot of money for that room, and it was noisy, and boiling hot. Not a great sleep. I find it very hard to believe that no one has ever heard, or mentioned, the humming whine coming from behind the wall ALL night.
There was no solution, they had no other rooms, and refunded us an amount, as compensation. We went and bought more earplugs. (I would have liked an airconditioner, but it wasn't THAT much.)
Breakfast was ok, some very grumpy people serving, and not very interested in helping. The breakfast room is very pretty, in an arched conservatory, a bit hot on hot days though!
Nice big bed and very comfortable, though it was so hot, no linen was necessary. I did notice housekeeping had put a sheet on the bottom of the bed, I thought they may kindly be suggesting a sheet instead of the hot cover. We did't use it, but it was a nice thought.
All in all, the room and hotel was lovely, but the lack of air, windows, and the hot towel heater adding to the heat, plus the noisy hum behind the wall, spoilt it a little for us.
