"Unwelcoming staff .."

4.0

We were staying in a cottage with friends on the next road and decided to call in at the Manor House for drinks with a view to staying here on our next visit. The hotel is lovely but to be honest have never come across such unwelcoming staff. At evening drinks in the bar we decided to enquire about breakfast there the following morning as non residents. The gentleman at the bar advised us to enquire at Reception. The receptionist was unhelpful and made us feel awkward and unwelcome and was only interested in taking the £80 payment but then decided we should pay after eating the breakfast. We arrived for breakfast , and the welcome (or no welcome) was even worse. I can’t remember the number of times he mentioned we were non residents. We were still eating our cereal when he asked for our hot food order which we hadn’t decided on , this clearly irritated him and he said ‘ people are usually ready to order now this is when the chef cooks the food ‘ No smile, no pleasantries, no eye contact at all. We headed out to pay at Reception, a different receptionist to the previous evening but just as rude. There was an American lady checking out before us who said thank you as she left … absolutely no response from the receptionist whatsoever. We will definitely not be enquiring about staying next year despite the lovely hotel and good food. Being in customer service for over 30 years I suggest your staff need some training as the way we were spoken to and their manner towards us is unacceptable. Maybe they don’t like tourists/visitors but should remember we all go on holiday and are ‘tourists’ somewhere. We have visited the Cotswolds every year in hotels and self catering and everyone has been very welcoming and polite until this. Such a shame

"Very comfortable and convenient for breaking our journey"

The breakfast was very good Freshly cooked and the service was excellent.

There was some noise from a wedding party but we were warned in advance and it didn’t go on after midnight

"We paid £285 for a nights stay in a classic double room which was on the third floor, slightly overpriced and not much r"

Ideally situated for our stay

We found the bed a little hard and pillows uncomfortable. In the bathroom had to wait a long time for hot water to come through.

"Romantic getaway to the Cotswolds"

10.0

We got upgraded to their Apple cottage which was fantastic! I wish I could have stayed longer. I loved their garden, the restaurant, lounge area which felt like a living room and the location close to the station.

I liked everything.
