The Manor House Hotel

The dining room is BEAUTIFUL and the staff was really friendly and accommodating; the lobby has a fireplace and a library and comfortable furniture; We arrived too early to check in so we were able to store our luggage, which they very kindly delivered to our room; While the room was in a 400+year old part of the building, the hotel had done updates to make the age of the room less apparent. The bathroom was fully renovated and there were single USB outlets by each bedside table and some near the desk. We received shortbread cookies every day and we had coffee and a coffee machine. Breakfast was outstanding---fresh baked goods and meals cooked to order....Very, very, nice;; Desk staff was very nice although we questioned the accuracy of some of the things we were told regarding WIFI.

This hotel has a new portion and an old portion; Our room was in the old portion; Our room was one of two extra large rooms in the hotel; It was situated on the top floor, far away from the lobby; There was no lift available in this section of the hotel so we had to negotiate a total of 33 stairs -broken up into flights of 3, 6, 10 individual stairs connected with little hallways. ; Each set of stairs was closed off by firedoors. It could only be described as a rabbit warren; Because there was no signage directing us to the lobby, I ended up in the basement twice until I figured out the route! Our room had a lovely bed and chairs and a desk, While the bathroom was newly renovated, there were no electrical outlets in it; The bathroom had a shower in a tub and, while very stylish, the size and contour of the tub made going in and out a bit hazardous; The most frustrating part of our stay involved WIFI. WIFI was available in our room if I stood by the hallway door or went into the hallway. Otherwise, getting or keeping a WIFI connection while in our room was nearly impossible. The front desk finally admitted that WIFI reception could be a little spotty; When we asked to change rooms, there were no rooms available. Be aware that there is no air conditioning in the room, although we did have a fan; The windows need to be opened for air circulation and there was some road noise since our room was on the front side of the hotel;

Beautiful old fashioned hotel. Lovely restaurant setting and the garden is very pleasant in the summer.

We were so so happy with the interior and exterior of the hotel. I was sad to leave. I took so many pix of our hotel room and the grounds as I was just in love.

We were there over a weekend during a heatwave and it was ridiculously noisy during a heat wave because we had to open windows. We didn’t sleep much at all.
